Annual pass physical condition?

I recently purchased our first annual pass in over 10 years. We plan to visit several times in the coming 12 months.

Anyway, when did Disney do away with the credit card style annual passes? Mine from the early 90's has a photo and withstood alot of abuse over the year of being used often.

Any suggestions on keeping the current ticket style in good shape?

I bought one of those lanyards with a plastic cover to keep mine in. Once a CM indicated that it was harmful for the pass (as it would hardly fit in there), so I took it out. However, I never had a problem with it, even when I left it out of the plastic. If you do have a problem with it, you can get a replacement very easily. It will hold up rather well, though. I wouldn't be too concerned.

We've owned several of the kind of AP's.

They've made many trips and gone thru many a FP machine.

They are not traditional "paper".
They are made of the same material that FedEx envelopes are made from (ever try to rip one of those?)

Theses AP's are virtually indestructable, so don't worry about them wearing out.

I keep mine in my wallet when I am not using it. I went over 80 times last year and the AP looks almost new at the end of the year.

My AP got crinkled and stopped working. I went to the service desk at the park and they just gave me a new one. I asked why they didn't use the plastic ones any more, they said that paper is cheaper than plastic and they issue hundreds of thousands of them every year.

Mine came in a paper sleve which seems to help. You should be ok.
