annual pass - no expiration?

Have a friend who claims that her parents purchased lifetime passes to wdw. Has anyone ever heard of this? She says it is like an annual pass with no expiration. I didn't think there was such a thing until I returned from my own trip last week and received an email survey. One of the questions was what type of admission did I have: magic your way pass? magic your way pass w/no expiration? annual pass? premium annual pass? or annual pass w/no expiration???? Is such a thing available and would that make it a lifetime pass??

Never heard of such a thing. There have been contests where one of the prizes is a lifetime pass. It's also possible to have an annual pass voucher that won't expire. It's turned into a standard pass on first visit (may have to pay $'s for price increases since date of voucher).

Disneyland has Club 33 who's members have lifetime passes...sort of. They have to pay annual membership dues.

At one point (many years ago) WDW did offer Florida residents lifetime annual passes. I suppose that might be what is being referred to.

The only thing that I can think it might be is . . . when the Disney Vacation Club (now known as Old Key West) first "opened its doors," one of the incentives to purchasers was a lifetime pass. I'm wondering if that is what someone meant by "buying" one once?

I believe they are only prizes like someone said original DVC, or some retiring CMs....i havent heard of any option to buy one in the last 15year...back in the day when you bought your annual pass the price would never increase....but that is now gone as well....

I have read that whenever a park opens for the first time, Disney randomly picks a family waiting to get in and awards a lifetime pass. Never heard of being able to purchase one.

I did hear of a lifetime pass, I think the price was about $1500. and this was back in the 1970's when there was just one park (Magic Kingdom), most rides required separate payment, and a one day pass with about ten ride coupons cost about ten dollars.

Back then, savings banks paid interest of about five percent per year. If you deposited the $1500. in the bank instead, after taxes the interest earned would buy about five days of admission and all 1500 of the original dollars are still there. I don't have enough math background to figure out various combinations of how long the money would last with longer Disney vacations every year or every other year and different rates of inflation.

The original meaning of the term E-ticket came from the old ticket books where the ride coupons came in five categories A through E where E tickets were needed for the most elaborate or most thrilling rides.

I don't think they sell these anymore but I would probably buy one if they did!

To the best of my knowledge Disney has never sold Lifetime Passes.

There are some special circumstances.

The members of the first family into a park are awarded lifetime passes.

People who retire from Disney (with pension) have lifetime access to the parks (Along with a limited number of guests).

There are "charter" annual passes, which are very deeply discounted. To get one you must have purchased an AP in the first year they were available and made a timely renewal every year since. If a charter passholder marries, their spouse can then be eligible for a charters AP provided is is purchased with a year of the marraige, and a child can be bought one within a year of turning three.

I wish we had that.
We were one of the buyers of OKW the first 15 months it was open. They offered passes for a specific period of time. Can't remember exactly how long it was, but it was a limited time offer that expired on a certain date for all buyers.
It wasn't an AP, it was a length of stay pass for the amount of days your reservation for. The number of passes you got for that stay (if I remember right) was equal to the number of people the room slept minus 2. So a 2 bedroom sleeps a total of 8 people, that would be 6 passes. A studio sleeps 4, so you got 2 passes. I remember taking advantage of it and it was a nice perk, but not a lifetime one.

That's right. It wasn't a lifetime pass for those DVC folks--just a length of stay each time you went. Until the program ended. Then the pass ended too.
It was a nice perk while it lasted..
