Annual Pass Discounts

We are debating about updating our one trip passes to annual passes. One of the big deciding factors for us how much will it cost for us to return to Disney in the year to come, especially in regards to hotel stays. Can someone share their experience with discounts for hotel stays as a annual pass holder?

If you're considering more than one trip at all, the pass is almost definitely worth it just for the # of times you'll use it.
Don't forget, there are other discounts tied to dining that help as well.

I can't really speak to the extra ~5% hotel stack, because I seem to be good at catching Orbitz/Code deals that are usually even a few bucks better in the value and mod resorts.

This past year it was very hard for me to get AP discounts at the hotels. Our trip in October I tried starting the day it was released & there were none available then. It seems to be harder & harder to get them. I did manage to snag a good discount at the BWI CL last April but that took a lot of diligence. They only set aside a certain number of rooms at whatever hotels are participating. Just my experience.

Here's question for you AP experts. I got an AP this past Oct because I had several short trips planned over the next year and it saved me about $400 in park passes, as well as discounts on purchases.

I'm planning a trip for Dec 2016, which will be after my AP expires.

If an AP special offer comes up within the time I still have my active AP, and I book the trip, but then decide to not renew, what happens to my reservation? Not sure I will be doing enough trips over following year to make the AP worthwhile, so I don't what to book something if I decide to not renew.
