Annual Pass Discount - Can you get AP discount if AP not activated ?

I'm looking to buy an Annual Pass to use during my trip in December. We'd like to attend Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party during that trip, and I understand you can save on tickets with an Annual Pass.

My question is ... if I buy an Annual Pass and link it to my account, but do not activate it until my trip, will I be able to receive the AP discount on my event tickets when ordering ?

AP discounts are only available on a very few selected dates.

Below are the dates from 2016

The dates are as yet unknown for this year
Actually tickets went on sale at midnight. There are AP discount dates the last one is Dec 12th. I grabbed a screen shot when I was looking at prices this am-looks like there are a few more discounted parties this year.

Thanks all. Looks like I will hit an AP date. Looks like I'm buying an AP a few months earlier than I planned, but between discounts on the party tickets and the discount on a special tour I want to take with my son, the AP will save us more than the difference between AP and a 7-Day ticket (not to mention give us merch discounts and let me buy TiW, which I prefer to the dining plan)

Well, got it all taken care of. AP discount on the party wasn't much (5%), but I suppose it all adds up !

Congrats! We just bought annual passes also. The number of days we spend in the parks alone didn't add up to the amount we would spend on annual passes, but when we did the math and factored in the discount on resorts and things like MNSSHP & MVMCP, shopping discounts, etc, it was worth it. I'm now really excited to go to the parks this summer and pick up the actual passes!

I had some difficult math this time around.

My family of 4 last went for a big trip in 2015. We were planning to go in summer 2018 (12 days) and summer 2019 (10 days), with a food and wine trip in October 2018 (4 days) .... but then the opportunity to finally go at Christmas came up and we took it. I had to build a whole spreadsheet to justify value, but basically it came out to making sense to get 1 Annual Pass this trip (for discounts and Tables in Wonderland), and then get 3 more Annual Passes next July for the rest of them. I'll then have to do the math in 2019 and decide if cheaper to renew my Annual Pass or just buy a "per day" ticket.

The general rule used to be if you go 10 days in a calendar year, or if you stay off property and go 7, it made sense. It's a little tougher to do the math now.

The only thing that bugs me (that they still haven't figured out) is how to get you your customized AP Magic Band before your trip. Last time we had to buy 4 of them when we got down there, because we were staying off property and they wouldn't send you Magic Bands until you activated your AP - and they had no way to just give you some when you arrive. Very frustrating. Luckily not a big deal for us anymore as, like most people, we now have a garbage bag full of them.
