annual pass DDE card question

We have an annual pass that is going to expire on 1/24/05 and will be at WDW 1/15-22. I would be interested in purchasing the DDE card because I think we'd save more than the $50 it'll cost us, but am wondering if my DDE card would still be valid once my pass expires. Anyone know?

Since FL residents used to have to show their DL to use the card, I'm guessing we'd probably have to show a valid AP along with an ID for out of staters.

The cards issued today expire 1/31/06...but like I said, probably have to show active AP along with them when we use them.

Also, cards are taking 4 to 6 weeks to process, so you'd have to have them send an email confirmation to use it later this month. BTW, you get 2 cards, one in your name, the second in the name of another adult in the same household.

My AP expires in October but my DDE expires in January 06. I think the DDE card extends beyond your AP card because you pay for 1 year membership. The letter I received specifically states "The membership is valid through 1/31/06". There is nothing that says, nor did the person I spoke to suggest, that it was in any way tied to my AP expiration date. I think you just need an active AP when you purchase the DDE.

I saw this on the allearsnet newsletter:

>>>NEW Annual Passholder Perk! Walt Disney World Annual
Passholders, regardless of residency, are now eligible for
membership in the Disney Dining Experience, and they can receive
$25 off the regular $75 fee to boot! Previously, this membership
was only open to Florida residents. The primary benefit of
membership is a 20 percent discount on all food and beverages at
participating resort hotel and theme park restaurants (valid for
a party of up to 10). Membership also includes complimentary
resort and theme park parking for dining, as well as invitations
to special member-only events. (Note that the Disney Dining
Experience Membership card is not accepted on holidays,
including New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, Mother's Day, Easter,
July 4, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.) Call
(407) 566-5858 (Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Eastern) for
more information.

EDITOR'S NOTE: According to the customer service representative
when I ordered mine (just now!), demand has been high, so allow
4-6 weeks for processing. If you will be visiting Walt Disney
World before you receive your membership card, they will email a
letter for you to use in its place.<<<<

we won't be purchasing our AP until April can we order the card now - so we Have it when we are in FL.? I don't need to recieve the card after we are home....Or how can I get it when we are in FL?

DDE has never been avaiable on a walk up basis in the past. You had to order it in advance and have it sent to you. Maybe you could call after you buy the AP and have them fax the letter to your hotel, but from what I have read that is not 100% reliable. (They don't have to fax the letter and it can take a day or so) However, I do understand that all you have to have is an AP voucher. Maybe you could order the vouchers and then get the DDE?

I just ordered mine today and all I said was that I had a AP and would like to buy the DDE. Interstingly enough when I asked if I needed to present my AP card with the dining card I was told I only needed the AP to get the discount on the Card. I will be at WDW this weekend for the 1/2 marathon then this summer will be my first using my DVC points so I figured the card would more than pay for itself.

I've had the DDE card for a couple of years the only thing that you have to show is the card to get the discount. Just make sure that the name on the
card is the same as your credit card or room key if you are charging it to your room if not they will question you as to why they are different.

I read that the DDE participating restaurants change periodically, but is there a current list of participants. I'm trying to decide if it's worth it for our adult party of 4 going to DW from 5/14-5/21. We're staying at OKW, and although we'll eat some meals in, most will be eaten out.

Don't get overly excited by this---from everything I have read on the boards, DDE is absolutely NOT doing this. Apparently, they "accidently" processed a few people without AP's or FL residency during the mad rush time in January, but since then have straightened things out.

I don't see where in the item I posted that said it was available to non-AP holders, non-FL resident. It clearly says Annual Passholders.

AllEarsNet did post at one point that the DDE was avaialble to EVERYONE, but they have since changed to the above policy.

I'm wondering if we'll be able to use our DDE card in late June? Our AP expires early June, but then we didn't plan on getting another AP until our January trip. I'll still get to use the DDE card for January cause it expires the end of next March.

I wasn't planning on the June trip, but now I'm taking my girls and mom for a no parks trip. We plan on using old park hoppers pluses and going to the water parks. It would be nice to be able to use the DDE card for some resort meals.

Does anyone know???

Shan, my understanding is that you only have to have the AP at the time of purchasing the DDE not when using it.
