Annual pass and split stay

Hi Everyone,

I plan a three weeks vacation with my 2 daughters at wdw splitting
between three resorts(9-10/2014).

Is it possible that buying a 10 day magic your way tickets for 14 days cost
almost as much as an annual pass?

If I plan at least 10 days at the disney parks(including blizzard) maybe it's worth to upgrade and buy the annual pass?

I come from Israel so there's almost no chance I will be able to use my tickets one more time that year(because of the expensive flight tickets) but if i give up the annual that means that at least part of my three weeks vacation will be without disney parks.

I am willing to give up the first week and activate tickets from the second week for 14 days combined with my second resort(first week I can visit universal or sea world) but of course the better option is enjoying the parks from the beginning(specially if I can go to disney parks on extra magic hours before or after my visits outside diseny).

Can this be done without increasing too much the tickets cost?

Would you consider annual pass if you were in my place?

A10 day MYW ticket with hopping and without waterparks is $399. So almost $40/day.


An AP (which is automatically a hopper) is $611.

Ignoring any merchandise or dining discounts you get with the AP, or even a room discount, for 10 days the AP would run you over $60/ day. If you used it every day for 3 weeks, the AP would be cheaper per day, but I'm guessing you don't need all those days.

Just to clarify, the Annual Pass will allow you to hop among all 4 theme parks, but will not get you into the water parks. If you decide to go with an AP and want unlimited water parks as well, you would have to get the Premium Annual Pass, which would cost you $745 (or you could get the AP and just pay as you go for the water park). You could also buy a 10 day hopper + water park fun & more for $423 to cover the theme parks and water parks for 10 days and do something else the first or last week as the park tickets (other than APs) are only good for 14 days from first use.

Getting an AP vs 10 day tickets would depend on how many days you are planning on going to the parks. I'm not too sure I understand your plans.

If you buy a 10 day park hopper ticket + water parks, it gives you 10 days of park admission and 10 days of water parks too, plus Disney Quest.

So, you could do 10 park days, and slot in water park days too. If you did 10 park days, and 4 water park days, that's 14 days. I think you said you were having 14 days at wdw parks? But will be there 21 days?

If you got a AP, it of course would covet all 3 weeks, but not water parks. You do get an AP discount to buy WP tickets, depending on how many days you plan on going to the WPs. If its 3 or more days for WPs then you may want to consider the Premium AP that includes Unlimited WP visits too.

Also with an AP you will get an extra discount on your resort room, if discounts are available during your dates. And if you want to add the dining plan, with a split stay its easy because you don't have to buy tickets as an AP holder.

Doing the Disney Math isn't always easy. The ticket pricing is on the Wdw web site to compare options. Keep in mind they don't include tax.

I'm curious, I know for England the have 20 or 21 day ticket options that they don't have for the US or Canada. Can you get those tickets too? Being that your overseas too?

Would you consider annual pass if you were in my place?

I would first look into the 14 and 21 day tickets that are available to European visitors. It may be possible that you can also get them. I know there is info on them on the disney UK site. You can also go to the UK Trip Planning forum on the disboard and ask there.

If these tickets aren't available to you then I would consider the annual pass. Our once a year trips are usually about 14 days long, but we like having the option of popping into a park for a couple hours or dinner every day without having to worry about using one of our days on a MYW ticket. For us, even though we only go once a year, the AP works best. The price of a 10 day and a 4 day MYW ticket (both without hopping) is equal to the price of an annual pass which has hopping built in.

Depending on how many times you want to go to the water parks you can get one day water park tickets, the Premium Annual Pass, or the water park annual Pass. Since we hardly go to the water parks or Disney Quest I'm not too familiar with the best ticket options for them.

You can always start with the 10 day MYW tickets and once you're at DW if you decide you want to upgrade to the AP it can be done then. Just be sure you use your 10 day ticket by entering a theme park at least once before upgrading so that you'll get the gate value of the ticket as of the day you upgrade.

Another advantage to the AP would be that you'd be eligible to buy the Tables in Wonderland (TIW) card. This will give you a discount on many restaurants - mostly TS - throughout the property. For staying 3 weeks, this could be very advantageous, especially if you enjoy nice meals.

My 20 days are actually 22 including arrival and departure.

I plan 8 days outside Disney(4 universal,3 sea world/aquatica/busch gardens,1 for small attractions at international drive).

Rest of the days are for Disney parks especially 7 days for MK and EPCOT.

I do need one day for blizzard beach because we reallylove this water park and tthat's all(we're lesee impressed by typhoon lagoon or Disney quest).

Maybe its a waste taking 10 days MYW if I only go to blizzard once but I do need at least 9 days for the main parks and of course more days is an advantage cause I can use them even on days I plan outside Disney(for example using MK extra hours in the evening after a day at IOA).

Regarding the dining plan I m still not sure if its worth it.

Hard to figure the numbers at Disney website because they allow the plan with minimum 1 day park ticket which makes everything a lot more expensive.

I m sure the basic dining plan will be great for us because we probably not use more than a few table service restaurants(specially character meals).

If it will be worth it I will consider the plan but if not I m sure 1500 $ budget for dining will be more than enough for the 3 of us.

As for your last question I guess we will have to wait and see what the options are after I contact Disney team which will be only in a few months from now

For only a $10 difference, you would be better off getting a 10 day ticket over a 9 day, IMO. It's also better to get the hopper/water park option, rather than pay for BB for a day. The cost for 1 day at a water park is $55, so even if you only go to BB once, it's cheaper to get the combo ticket than to buy just the hopper and pay for the 1 day at BB. Plus, with getting the water park and more option, you get the same number of days for the water parks as you do theme parks, so you can go to BB more than once if you want.

I am not sure if they still do it...or if you booked a hotel yet, but they use to give discounts to annual pass holders, so it may pay to do one if thats the case.

According to my calculations the difference between MYW 10 days with water parks and annual pass basic adding 160$ for one day at blizzard is only 300 $.

Maybe its a price worth paying with all the benefits i will be getting from the annual pass.

One day at blizzard is enough cause we also visit aquatica for the first time(didnt like wet n wild back in 2006) and have 2 water park days and the pools at the resorts of course.
