If we have WDW annual passes, are they separate from the room key to the DVC resorts? Or, do they scan the AP to also act as a room key? Do you still have charging privledges as with a regular park hopper?

As long as you leave a credit card with the front desk and you don't exceed your limit, you can charge all you want with your room ID.

Annual passes are paper, room keys are plastic. After spending $1000 for three annual passes and getting the paper version (which shredded at Typhoon Lagoon and needed to be replaced) I asked why they were not made of plastic as well.

I was told by the MK center selling them that paper is cheaper and hold the magnetic coding better. I'm not sure paper holds coding better but $1000 for three passes and they are worrying about making the passes cheaper???

I had thought that an annual pass holds some level of durability but evidently not.

Mine are now pressed in a book waiting for april. I don't want to bend them and wreck the coding.

We've had PAPs for many years now and they really aren't paper. They are a nylon material like Tyvek. Just try to tear one.

If you AP or PAP gets damaged, you just go to any Guest Services desk at a park and they will issue you a new one. They have your info on file and it only takes about 3 minutes to get a new one.

Considering that the Disney keys are about the worst things I have ever dealt in terms of memory storage I do NOT want my AP on those useless pieces of plastic. Several of my APs have looked like they were beat to death, but kept right on working...

Disney REALLY needs to work on thier technology. If your "delicate" room key is near a cell phone, another credit card or just about anything it becomes "unreadable" Now, I have taken up residence at a Marriott and have had the SAME room key for over a month. I just throw it in my purse where it comes into contact with the cell phone, a wallet FULL of credit cards and who knows what. It just keeps working... try that with your Disney Room card..... If Disney put your AP on that delicate card I would probably have to replace the dang thing every visit!

At least this is better than Disneyland. There, your room key is your room key. That's all. Except that you can use it for a luggage tag afterwards because there is a hole punched in it. No charging to the room, no park tickets. Nothing.

Hmmmmm......the DL AP plastic material is very strong. We keep them by credit cards, etc., and none of ours have ever been de-magnetized.

That may be, but they also do not have the same information on them, and don't use the same kind of entry machine.

We have had APs for nearly 10 years. The Tyvek material is surprisigly tough, and we have never had a issue with them shredding, but then we never got them wet either.

When I ordered tickets a couple of weeks ago I got plastic MYW tickets and plastic vouchers for the APs. Does this mean that Disney is going to be switching to Plastic?

Nope, that's what you usually get in the mail.

You are right. I had forgotten that having the room cards near a cell phone will wipe out the memory. We have to keep our cells in one side pocket and the room keys opposite on the other side. We did lose coding when they were in the same pocket and the CM at the front desk told us this happens all the time.

Ok, you got me thinking , room keys, annual passes, dvc cards, cash all that junk when you go to TL or BB where do you put that stuff? women's swimsuits don't have pockets and I can't say I am thrilled about leaving it in some locker and if you do what do you do with the key?

then, should you bring towells or do they provide them? If you need to bring them do you just put them on some chair while you are in the pools?

1) They start out separate.
2) But, you can have your AP scanned to your room key like any ticket.

I usually carry ours in a case around my neck or put them in a locker. You can get those cases at the water parks. The key is on a rubber strap that you can wear around your wrist.

You'll need to bring your own towels or rent them at the water park. I think they are around $2 or $3 to rent. You can also buy big beach towels at the water parks and they are yours when you leave. Just leave your towels where you stake out your spot. We've been lots of times and never had any problems with others taking our towels or belongings.

I just don't get it, Yes Disney has more DATA on the card then the Marriott but there is still no excuse for the Disney problem. This has been going on for years... The last time I was there the front desk at All Star Sports told me "we have had LOTS of problem's with this batch" I am willing to give up the cute Disney ID for something that WORKS!
