Hey guys,

I wanted to buy my AP now for a trip in June and pay with flex pay. If I start paying the flex pay now, will they expire next April or when I first use them? What happens when next April comes around and they are paid off? Will they still be good until June? Thanks for the help!

I did a similar thing 18 months ago or so, and my memory is a little foggy. But, I'm very sure the APs don't start until you activate them. So, they will be good from when you first use them until one year from that date.

When you've paid off that first year using Flex Pay, they automatically renew on a month-to-month basis until you contact UO and cancel them.

It will not expire until a year after you activate it no matter when you purchase it. The monthly payments will continue unless you give them 30 days notice before your first year of payments end that you want to discontinue with it.

So your payments will end one year after they begin (providing you tell them to stop). If you don't tell them to stop, your pass will continue into its second year.

I see you're keeping tabs on me since my "butterbeer isn't carbonated" misstep. ;)

Also if you use flexpay you will not be able to get a discount on renewal. You pay the same price as the first year including the down payment, divided by 12 months forever until you cancel.

I was going to use flexpay one time and ended up finding this out. The only benefit is the price can never go up with AP price increases, but you get no renewal discount, that is how they make the money.:thumbsup2

Thanks for the reminder to cancel my flex pay. We got them last year and used them in August and will use them again this July. If we decide to go back next year and in 2014, we'll buy them again next year. No need to renew if we will only use them once.

Hmm, could this be cheaper in the long run? Assuming ticket prices go up every year.

The renewal discount is about $100/year. Annual pass rates only go up around $10-$30 /year. So probably not cheaper.
