Does the annual pass start on the day of activation at the park or on date of purchase?

It starts on the day of first use in the parks! If you buy it online, then I believe you have 3 months to activate it.

Thats good to know, I was going to buy mine now for when we go in may, so I can get that expense outa the way. Guess I better wait.

I'm not sure about the 3 months thing. I feel like when I first ordered mine two years ago, it gave me a window longer than 3 months before first use. Best way to figure that out would be to call.

We waited until our 2nd day at the parks to convert to the AP. We had a package and they rolled over what we paid for our 8 day park hoppers to the AP cost. It was easy and gave us a little more time to save for the extra cost.

Although it may seem like a hassle, it might be better to buy hoppers then upgrade. I say this because when we bought our APs online for our Halloween trip, the CM that took our picture in the park made the expiration date the day I *printed* the tickets (twelve days before we used them). I didn't even check and only noticed after a few days but thought that was the way they did it (until I saw differently on here).

But yes op, the AP activates when you get it scanned at the turnstyle!

This seems really unfortunate. If you are thinking of going during those 12 lost days, I would contact Disney about this. Let them know that you found out that your tickets were upgraded wrong.

We got 6 day park hoppers for our Oct trip so we could cover part of the expense of our AP ahead of time but the real reason we didn't buy our AP early was so we could use the MM benefit on the parkhoppers before upgrading to APs since we are staying off site this time.
