Annual pass activation question

If I purchase a Gold Pass today, can I wait until my trip in December to activate it, and then start the clock on the Year? Is there a time limit to activate the pass is what im really asking.

Robo, I also have a quick question. I have had a renewal certificate in my tickets for a couple of years (see below). I have renewed my AP on a couple of occasions but never used the renewal certificate. How do I go about using this certificate when I renew in October? Thanks! I don't have anything more (no hard copy of the certificate) than the MDE confirmation. It also shows up in the app.

Sorry, but I don't know what a "renewal certificate" is.
