Annoying "Fun 'N Games" at Quiet Cove

After reading posts with complaints about children being where they oughtn't -- such as at the Quiet Cove Pool or in some of the adult classes -- I wanted to say that more annoying to me than the sight of a child walking through the Quiet Cove Pool area is the shrill and hugely annoying Disney employee who shattered what "peace" there was at "Quiet Cove" pool with an inane series of idiotic games, relays and the like in the pool, all announced loudly through a microphone. Good grief. If I wanted to see stupid juvenile things like that I'd go to a disco for a wet T-shirt contest.

Give me a break. Let the Quiet Cove Pool be a QUIET oasis for adults who are (even if temporarily) away from children. Don't make it be Single's Fun 'N Games Day with a gameshow host wannabe.

Yikes!! Is this something new? Where do folks who want peace and quiet go to relax? I am single, but by no means do I want to be associated with these activities. I figured a book and my sunscreen would be my closest companions while at the Quiet Cove pool.

On a 7 day cruise, there are only 2 times that they do these adult pool games and it lasts only about 15 minutes if that each time. I just came back 2 weeks ago and didn't seem to find it annoying. It was at 3 p.m. one day and 1:30 p.m. the other day and they are the days at sea. The adults need to have a little fun in between quiet time. It shouldn't bother you too much in the least.

Whew! That's good to know. I am only a 4-day cruise so I should not be affected.

I'm all for fun and games too, but I thought they meant this was an all afternoon event.

On the 4 day in Oct./2000 they did this once and it lasted all of 30 minutes. We didn't have a day at sea so I can't remember which day they did this - it could have been the Nassau day because we didn't stay off the ship long and it was in the afternoon. We thought the games were pretty funny. Part of it was a scavenger hunt and it started out with like 8 guys and 8 girls and they had to go find stuff and run back and they would take away a chair for each group to eliminate one. They started out looking for things like straws and lemons which were easy since the bar was right there but by the end when there was one girl and one guy left they had to get a bikini top (for the guy) and some trunks (for the girl) off of someone in the crowd! Needless to say I helped the guy win! Don't worry - nobody sees anything, my husband was right there with a towel to cover me. And throughout the whole thing they are making sure that no kids are around. Even if some did walk by it was all very innocent.

So then it was just my unfortunate "luck" that of the 30 minutes I managed to get to myself to sit by the adult pool on the entire cruise, that loud and intrusive activity dominated it. I will say, however, that it lasted longer than 15 minutes, and there was no escaping it unless one left the area.

People who get more time to themselves probably don't mind the intrusion as much. Just bad luck on my part, I guess. (But even if I had had more time to myself, listening to the inane comments was NOT how I would have chosen to spend that time).

That is the sort of thing that I have always assumed goes on during a Carnival cruise, and why I have never had any desire to cruise that line. Crystal sounds nice....

Thanks for the information, I appreciate it!

on our Magic cruise in January '01. But then we'd go to the adult pool around 10 a.m. and leave by 1 p.m. or so, so maybe we just missed them. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed the games either, but then I could have escaped to my verandah. Nobody could bother me there if I wanted peace and quiet. :D

Count me in. I did not enjoy the games either. It was noisy and those of us in the pool had to get out to allow the games. Seems like the game went on forever. I agree, Quiet Cove should be quiet.

You obviously can't make everyone happy. If the pool games were held entirely at another pool, a percentage of that group would probably complain as well.

I personally enjoy watching the pool games. A cruise is also supposed to be FUN and relaxing. I know Disney cannot make everyone happy no matter how hard they try, but complaining about an activity designed to be fun is silly. As another poster stated, they do not last all afternoon. I do understand how you feel though, if that was the only time you got at the pool and it was not quiet. That would be frustrating.

As far as the game show host wannabe.....I am sure Disney tells the CM's how and what to say with a bit of improv thrown in. Give the staff a break....they are doing their jobs. They are supposed to be silly and get the crowd involved. I have always seen everyone enjoying themselves at these games (5 DCL cruises) and never heard of anyone complaining.

If you can swing the Crystal Cruise price.....GO FOR IT. It is a beautiful line but you will not find the FUN of Disney on it. Mostly the high brow type.

Just my two cents.

I'm with MJ on this one. I think the staff deserves a break for the job they do. It's not like they make this stuff up...they are told what to do and when. And since out of 7 days on the ship, these games are only going on for maybe a total of 2 hours, your angst seems out of proportion. There is always your verandah or Deck 7 Aft if you want quiet or privacy for that short period of time.

I personally like an occasional game and I enjoy occasionally being silly. I'm not sure about the reference to "singles" games, since I felt that way when married also. I would presume you would be the type who would not enjoy Dueling Piano's or Match your Mate(?) gameshow...both of which I also found silly, relaxing and good for a laugh.

IMHO, Disney = young at heart, fun and imaginative. If you prefer a different sort of atmosphere, I think you'd be far happier on a Crystal Cruise.
