Annoying, demanding ebay buyer using an Paypal eCheck vent

I had some auctions end last night.

This gal sends me an eCheck for an auction that ended last evening. She says she needs this doll set by the end of this week at the latest for a gift. She's adding insurance to get it here faster (like adding insurance makes your package arrive quick). She paid late Sunday night. In my paypal account the echeck funds aren't available. Paypal has written on their site underneath this echeck transaction not to ship until the payment clears. Paypal estimated the echeck to clear and post to my account on Friday, Sept 29.

I email back stating that I won't send the item until the eCheck clears. Paypal told me the eCheck should clear and funds will be in my account by Friday. If it clears early on Friday I'll ship Friday, but if it's late on Friday I can ship on Saturday.

She emails back stating that's not acceptable. She says eBay says I have to ship her item within 5 days of receiving payment. She told me she added insurance as an incentive to mail it sooner.

I email again explaining how echecks work. I cannot ship until the eCheck clears. I copied and pasted the message paypal gave me telling me when to expect the eCheck to clear and not to ship until it clears.

She again sent me an email through ebay.

This is what it said.

" Heidi, You don't realize that I am the buyer. The job of the buyer is to pay and I paid right after your auction ended. You accept paypal and that includes echecks. You accepted my payment. It's your job as a seller to mail out my package 24 hours after getting payment and that means Monday. Do you understand? I have 99 feedback with only 1 negative and I have never had a problem with echeck. How dare you accuse me of not being able to cover my own echeck. I'll leave appropriate feedback. Since you don't want to mail our my package on time I will receive this package no later than Monday. I have never had a seller treat me so poor. You give ebay a bad name. Don't forget to give me the insurance I paid for. "

I NEVER accused her of not being able to cover her own echeck. I don't know where that came from. I was polite and just explained how that is.

This person has been on ebay since 2001. She does have 99 feedback with 1 negative and her current feedback was 14 months ago. There is nothing current on her profile since June 2005, and that was only one item. Most of the other feedback was in 2001 and 2002.

I have been selling since 98 with 800+ feedback. This is my first time ever receiving an echeck. I was just being nice by letting her know when the echeck will clear and when I expect to ship.

I don't have a problem with an eCheck, but I'm not sending the item until it clears. That's what paypal told me to do. I was to wait until it cleared and then mail the item.

Gosh, I just feel like not even selling to her. I have this nagging feeling she'll complain and want a partial or total refund. What a bunch of crap.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Vent away.... I really don't like ignorant buyers who think you owe them the world either. :rotfl:
Just stick to the rules... stick to the rules. The worst she can do is claim you sent her something totally NOT what she had ordered and get PP to give her her money back and then not return your item. It doesn't sound like she'd do that.

I do find it amazing that in over 800 sales (probably MUCH more than that as only 1/2 the folk leave feedback) this is your first eCheck. Back in the Beanie Baby days I used to get them with 4 out of every 5 sales

The one positive in this situation is that you can add a response to negative feedback. Echecks are a pain in the butt, but, unless you want to get scr***d you have to wait until they clear.

I had someone recently pay me via Paypal and not realize that it was an "eCheck". She was relatively easy for me to deal with, but I had to cut and paste the same information to her. I suggested she try to use a credit card instead and then maybe it would be immediate? I'm not positive on that, but I think it comes up as an "eCheck" b/c she doesn't have a back up payment method (ie: credit card).

I would just stay as calm as possible, but simply say that payment has NOT been received. It may have been sent, but not received, yet. Suggest maybe, that you will cancel her payment so she can pay with a credit card instead.

Insurance to get it faster? LOL

What's the difference between a payment and an e-check?

I say follow the rules too. Don't mail her item until her e-check clears.
If she leaves you a poor feedback, just put in there your response on why. Don't leave her feedback until she has left yours just in case.

Sounds like a pita buyer......

Good luck.

I NEVER send an item until a payment has cleared. I try to be nice but I've lost about $150 being nice. Can't afford it. Thankfully most of my Pay Pal customers use Instant Payment. She sounds like a real "piece of work". Hey, if she needed it right away, tell her to get a real Pay Pal account with money already in it. Voila, no problem! I would refund her account, relist the item, block her as a bidder, cross your fingers, and hope for the best. If she leaves you a negative, you have every right to leave her one back. Good luck.

Tell her that until the E-check clears, she HASN'T paid you. That might shut her up.

Yep. I've never received an eCheck before. I've had paypal for a long time.
I also haven't received a money order from a buyer in over 3 years. Money orders are an option on my auctions, too. My auctions normally end on Sunday evening. Most buyers pay within 12 hours, and their packages are shipped out on Monday morning. Quick and simple. I get crazy potential bidders, but most of my buyers are nice and pleasant.

You're right about only 1/2 leave feedback.

LOL, tell her that when you receive payment, you absolutely WILL ship her item immediately. You have not received payment, therefore you would be a fool to ship until you do.

Remember, you will not be protected in any way if you ship before payment clears. If she doesn't like that, she should contact Paypal and discuss her issues with them.

She is a knucklehead. Send her some links on eCheck and educate her.

Also, leave her neutral feedback, when her payment clears, that reads 'buyer expected shipment BEFORE Paypal echeck cleared, unreasonable, threatening communication'

She says eBay says I have to ship her item within 5 days of receiving payment.

Right. And techically you have not received payment because the eCheck hasn't cleared Paypal. When the check clears, then you will have received payment.

By this buyer's logic, if she had sent payment in the mail, you would have received payment the minute the post office received it.

One word of advice -- do NOT leave feedback first. This buyer is one reason many sellers (myself included) do not leave feedback upon receiving payment. If you leave them positive feedback, they can leave a neg or complain for a partial refund with the implied threat of a neg and their feedback rating won't suffer. By holding back on leaving feedback, they have an incentive not to leave any at all. A neg will hurt her 99 moreso than your 800.

Oh, and you might forward her e-mail on to eBay. It could be considered feedback extortion, which is against eBay policy.

When I first started buying on E-bay I used the e-check way to pay and I had to wait for shipment, just like if I sent a check or money order. You have to wait for funds to clear.

I was under the impression back then that an e-check was like using my debit card and was paid out in an instant. Once I had someone explain the whole paypal thing to me in more detail, I stopped doing the e-check thing.

Excellent, diplomatic response.

I agree with everyone else, you have not recieved payment and it is ridiculous for the buyer to expect you to ship the item prior to the echeck posting.

Good Luck!!

I have to tell you one thing that happened to me! My DH ordered something from eBay, and I paid through Paypal like I always do.

Then I received an email from Paypal saying that my echeck would clear shortly, and I couldn't understand this as I hadn't used any "echeck" - just the regular immediate transfer from my account like I always used. (I always hit "Pay by Paypal" right after the sale) So I started to look into this, and found that the credit card I had on file under my profile had expired- apparently even though I was using the transfer from my bank account, when my credit card expiration date attached to the Paypal account had expired, it made my payment an "echeck"? :confused3 Anyway, I had to go into my Paypal profile and update my credit card expiration date - and the last time I paid through Paypal (couple days ago), everything went through just like normal....

When I got my new credit cards in the mail with the 2008 exp date, I never thought to update the expiration date on my Paypal account profile! You might ask her to check her profile online with Paypal to make sure that this has not happened to her too.

You know, I am in the same situation!!

I had an auction end Sunday night - the winner immediately emails asking about expedited shipping (I always use Priority, he wanted it sooner). Then he paid by eCheck that will not clear until Thursday!!! UGH!!!

Sorry buddy, no shipping until Thursday!

She is totally trying to manipulate you. Don't give in to her threats. She is trying to pull a fast one by getting you to mail something before her check clears.

anything named "check" must clear first. You are correct.
and very lucky to have run into this only after 800 transactions!
