Hello to all my new teammates!

I am honored to be the captain of the newest (and undoubtedly most interesting/exciting/sexiest LOL) WISH team!

I'll ask everyone to post up, telling us a bit about yourself, your goals, likes/dislikes etc.

I'll start:

I am Veronica, a 39 yo dental hygienist, mom, wife and runner. I started running in 2007, while doing WW to lose 100 lbs. I have lost 55, 45 more to go. My goal was to run the WDW half marathon before my 40th birthday (which is this November), which I have accomplished. Next up is the Disneyland Half (gotta get the Coast to Coast bling!) and the Marine Corps Half. I have set my sights on Jan, 2013 to run my first full marathon (will be the 20th anny at WDW)

I enjoy reading, driving my VW bug convertible and working around my house and garden when I am not running. I am fortunate to have a supportive family, especially my inlaws, who train with me.

So thats me in a nutshell, tell me about you!

Are you ready to be Incredible?

Here is our Incredible line-up

Hello everyone my name is Melinda and I am happy to be on this Wish team...

I am 35 yrs old and I am a mother of 2 girls ages 13 and 10.. I am a stay at home mother who home-schools her kids.

I just started to train for the 2011 princess half marathon. This will be my very first time every doing one of these. I am not a runner or even a jogger... I am a walker a very good walker at that also.. I had a surgery 10 years ago that does not allow me to run so I have to settle for walking this half marathon.

I am a HUGE Disney fan.. when I was younger I lived only 45 minutes away from Disneyland and I had to say that I enjoyed going there a lot.. I have only been to Disney World twice... I am always trying to sway my DH to go back and i think with me doing this half marathon that I finally got him to agree..

Hey all :)

I'm Amy, I turn 30 um, tomorrow! I live on the Upper West Side of Manhattan with my partner, Patrick, and our cat, Cosette. We are both lyricists. (Patrick is a musical theatre script/book writer as well) I also work for a law firm.

I've been training for the Princess Half Marathon for 11 days. :-) We were down in WDW two weeks ago, and saw the Princess 2010 medal winners, and I wanted one. I'm not an athlete at ALL, despite my bizarrely tiny frame. It's going okay, so far. I'm up to 4.5 miles in an hour.

Welcome new team. Sounds like your off to a good start. I'm a walker also, no problem at all walking the Disney races they are very walker friendly.

A BIG thank you to you, Veronica, for being our team captain!

I am Lisa and I've been running for a week! :rotfl2: Really, I'm on C25K week 2. My friend, mikamah, and I are running the Princess Half in 2011 together. It will be my first half marathon. I am ready to do something totally different from anything I've ever done in my life. :thumbsup2 I am a real estate attorney and have a DS who is 10. I hope my running efforts will inspire him not to let himself go like I did -- it is so hard to catch myself again. On the WISH side of the boards I am one of the organizers of the Biggest Loser Challenge. The current challenge runs through May 14th if you are interested! :thumbsup2

Hello Amy! and Happy Birthday! :bday:party:

Melinda, I grew up a few miles from Disneyland -- and I was a castmember there a very long time ago.

Welcome new team. Sounds like your off to a good start. I'm a walker also, no problem at all walking the Disney races they are very walker friendly.

Dave:hippie:

Thanks, Dave. I always enjoy your words of wisdom. :hippie:

I'm really excited to be here. I have no idea what to expect but I'm looking forward to that snazzy green shirt and I am so ready to be Incredible! :woohoo:

Hi All ~

I'm Patsy. I'm a born and raised Tennessean, but I now live in N. California with my DH and 2 DS's .....my oldest is turning 18 next Friday :scared1: and my youngest is 15 1/2

When we moved here 5 years ago I needed a distraction so I joined a running group called Moms In Motion and started training. I ran my 1st half Marathon 2 years ago and was hooked! I have since completed 7 but have decided that I only want to do Disney runs from now on because they have the best bling!!!:lmao: Not a fast finisher.....but a finisher and at 45 I'm very happy with that! My long term goal is that I'd love to run a full marathon and I'd love for that to be the one at Disney.....heck I'd even love to do the Goofy Challenge!

I love all things Disney and very excited to be a part of this new Wish Team.

Where did you guys lived at??? I use to live in San Bernardino... I sure do miss that place but I would NEVER trade the place where I live now for San Bernardino... I just LOVE the area where we are at now...

btw good luck on your training for the princess half... I have never done any kind of running before in my life but I really wanted to do this one because when I was in DW last year they had the princess half and I so got the bug then..

Welcome to all my peeps!!!

Happy Birthday to Amy!!!

Dave-thanks for stopping by, please drop in any time with words of advice and encouragement.

Looks like many are training for the Princess Half next year. Maybe I will have to convince DH to let me go too.........

Keep talking and I will try to have some questions to keep the conversation rolling!!

Hi all,

I decided to pop in and say hello to the new team and welcome you again. First, let me say that you have a great team name and a great Captain. Thanks, Veronica.

Melinda My sister and BIL have a house on Beach Rd--pretty close to you. DS may be there right now, as she was quarantined with Chicken Pox--at the ripe old age of 45! BIL was in the Navy (pilot) and so the Whidbey connection.

Amy Happy BIG birthday! Hope you have big plans to celevrate in style. Sounds like you are off to a good start with your running . Hope you have a good plan and a "slow and steady" approach to building up your miles . That's the best way to avoid injury (which most of us on the boards have had at one time or another)

Lisa I know how you feel about doing something different re:running. I was never a runner/walker either. I left that to my family (talented DD, athletic DH, even DS runs--under prodding). But two years ago I felt like I was in a fitness rut, and so I signed up for a Disney race (Minnie 15k). Since then, I have done a few 5k/10k, the Disney Half and most recently the Full. Even did a triathlon last year. So it can be done--I was 49 when I started.

Patsy You can definitely do a full. I had just the one half under my belt when I signed up for the full. It was scary, and I NEVER in my life thought I would ever do a marathon, but I did it. And I agree on the Disney bling--it's a major plus for doing the race. Sometimes I decide on a race based on the bling! So that's why I;m doing DLR this year--two medals!

I will be sending a few more people your way soon--more wanting to join the fun!

Good luck,

Maura

Hi Patsy! Nice to have you here with all of us racing newbies! :goodvibes

Melinda, I lived right in Anaheim -- I could see the fireworks from my house. (They ran at 9 pm and only in the summer). If you know where Katella High is in Anaheim, it was in that neighborhood. San Bernadino has changed a lot since then!

We are actually both in the same neck of the woods now, too. I live in Coeur d'Alene. Going to Portland and Seattle for a little spring road trip this week-end. My Mom has a place in Gig Harbor. Now we sing "it's a small world after all . . . " :rotfl2:

I highly recommend the Couch to 5K (C25K) program if you are looking for a way to start. My friend, mikamah, will be on here shortly I am sure and she is in week 4. There is also a thread on the WISH boards with other folks, like us, who are starting out.

Welcome to all my peeps!!!

Happy Birthday to Amy!!!

Thanks, Veronica, for being our captain! Were you the one who came up with our great team name? :cool2: My new mantra is "I'm ready to be Incredible!"

Thanks for the encouraging words, Maura. It is great to hear from the voice of experience.

The "couch" program is pretty great. I'm doing the Couch to 10K, mostly because the C25K looked like it was going to make me go too fast in too short an amount of time. I love it so far. I ran the first week on a treadmill, but I've been outside ever since.

Hello Incredibles teammates!!! I am so excited to be here, and I think this journey is going to definitely be incredible.

I'm Kathy, a 46 yo single mom to an awesome 8 yo boy. I'm a nurse in an outpatient endoscopy unit, and it is colorectal awareness month, so if you're over 50, be sure to get your screening colonoscopies!!;) I am new to running, and am doing the C25K program with Lisa, and like she said, we're going to do the Princess half in 2011. Some days I think, what was I thinking, and the next day, I'll get out and run, and know that I will get there. Today is one of the positive days. I just did W4D2 and jogged for the full half mile. :cool1: That is a huge accomplishment for me. I've never run before now, and am really enjoying it. I've been overweight and a yo-yo weightwatcher for many years. Right now, I'm focusing on the exercise, and trying to be conscious with the food, but not following any specific plan. I am doing the Wish biggest loser challenge too. I have about 50-60 pound to lose, but my first big goal it to lose 10 more pounds and get back under 200.

Thank you Veronica for being our leader!! I remember your daughters cute face from your avatar, but can't remember if it's from here on wish or the photography board. I haven't been over there in ages. I think your husband would want you to do the princess half with us, you are our leader and all. You have few months to convince him.

Happy Birthday Amy!!:flower3: Hope you have an incredible day!!

I love hearing about the races some of you have done. It is such an inspiration to me.

It's great to meet everyone, and I look forward to getting to know you all. Have a great day.:)

Now we sing "it's a small world after all . . . " :rotfl2:
Hey Lisa, thanks for the fun song that will be playing in my head all day now!!

Amy- I didn't realize they had a couch to 10k too, but I would have thought it had you running quicker. I have found the c25k to be a good pace for me but I'm using the times, not the distances, and am definitely going slower than the plan intends, but I'd rather do that and be able to finish. Today was supposed to be 5 minute jogs, or 1/2 mile, so on the last one, I did the 5 minutes, but because I was on a track, I continued to make the full half mile, but it took about 7-8 minutes. I think 4.5 miles in an hour is awesome.

For example, I just started the 90 second sprints last night, and I was doing W3D1. At that place in C25K, I'd be on jogging 3 minutes already, something I'm totally not ready for. C210K has much longer times (50-60 minutes each workout), but I'm hoping that'll build endurance.

It sounds like they are building you up for the longer runs. I like the fact that c25k is only 30 minute session, 3 days/week, because sometimes it's hard for me to get out and do it, but I say to myself, I am worth 90 minutes each week, and so far it's been working. I have also told myself it's ok to repeat weeks, and no matter how long it takes, as long as I don't give up, I'll be ok.

It is a Small World After All... I do recall that school.... I know San Bernardino has changed SO much... I was down there a few years ago just to drive through and show my kids where I went to school while I lived there and I have to say it looks so run down now that the base has been closed... Base Housing where we use to live is all fenced in and weeds growing all over the place I can't believe the houses they made us keep them up to par and now they just look like junk unless things have changed since I have been there... I hope you have a great time down here in Gig Harbor and I hope this crazy weather that we have been having will finally clear up so you can have a nice time down here.

Wow.. not alot of people know this town even exists... Sorry to hear that your sister had the Chicken pox those are not good when your that age or any age as an adult....

Have you been here to Whidbey before? It is so pretty over here. So your sister and BIL still live here on the island?

I would of never of guess that I would come across people that knew of this island or even lived close to where I did growing up... VERY small world we live in...

Just checking in real quick while on lunch at work.

For those just starting out running, Maura gave some great advice-go slowly. Injury is not something you want to deal with. You have plenty of time before the Princess to train, don't rush or feel you have to do exactly what the "program" tells you to do. You know your body, listen to it.

Kathy-you remember DD from WISH, I really don't go over to the photo board at all. Probably from one of the BL challenges or when I did the monthly exercise challenge. I should get a new avatar, but I just love that pic of her. (she is now about 4 years older, but hey)

Lisa-I did come up with the name with some help from DH. I tried to think of a single character but none really struck me. I thought about what would be inspiring, and being "incredible" sure would be!

When I am home tonight I am going to put a a list on the first post of everyones name and screen name.

Chat amongst yourselves.:flower3:

I remember reading about your C210K experiences on the WISH boards. Keep us posted on how you like it. It may be something to consider when we get ready to run longer distances. Now, I just concentrate on running period!

Hey Lisa, thanks for the fun song that will be playing in my head all day now!!

Happy to be of assistance, ma'am! ;)

I off for a little roadtrip to Portland and Seattle for a few days. Can't wait to see who has joined us when I return!

Have a great week-end and be Incredible! :cool2:

Hello all!

I just saw that I'm officially a part of The Incredibles, yay!

I'm 26, live in New England (but I'm from south Jersey) and work as a meteorologist. I used to run in high school, and then sporadically through college with my now fiance. I've written the whole story here, but to shorten it up, I started training in August for the 2010 Princess Half Marathon. The race was amazing and I am so happy I did it! I'm signed up for the Rock 'n' Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon at the expo for the Princess half, so I'll be starting my training for that this summer. Until then, I'll be running regularly, of course, but doing some speedwork and hill workouts so I can improve my running for the Philly half!

I look forward to talking to you all about our training!
