No, I didn't, but it *does* seem like a good idea, since I had the good fortune to get everything else in one swell foop!

Guess the S5200 will go to my 8 YO daughter, at least until she drops it on the (WDW) concrete!

After seeing what you did with the S5200, looking forward to seeing your work with the D50 :thumbsup2

Thank you; you are very kind. I sure do hope that the D50 images are significantly better than those from the S5200, given the vast gulf of difference in price!

WOW Ed. NICE!!! Went with the 18-135mm over the Sigma. Kewl. Nice pickup on the SB-800 too. Not to sure about the partridge in a pear tree. Though with the 70-300 you should be able to capture some nice shots of it. :rotfl2:

Congrats! Looking forward to seeing some new pics. And welcome to the Nikon world!!

Yeah, one of the things I love about the Fuji is the "do it all" zoom range, and it's definitely a move in the other direction, going to a dSLR. I finally decided to go with the 18-135 which will do me OK for a walkaround, and will give significant overlap on the long end, as well as some overlap on the short end. In addition, I found it for a pretty decent price ($300) from Complete Photo USA, thru Amazon.com, whereas everyone else is in the $400 range. Complete Photo apparently "de-kits" them from D80 kits and sells the lens and body separately; the body is probably matched up with a different lens and some other accessories. At any rate, they assured me that the lens is brand new, comes with all caps, hood, warranty card, etc, but is in a plain brown inner carton, as it is when purchased in tandem with the D80 kit.

Looking forward to getting this stuff in and putting it to work! Already setting up WDW shots in my mind, for July!

Nah; it was a freebie for anyone ordering way more camera gear than they either needed or could afford. I had no difficulty whatsoever in qualifying!

After our recent trips, Christmas, and a ridiculously expensive washer and dryer :scared1: , I can't even afford the pizzas YECKIM is delivering to pay the Visa bill!

Congrats on the new babies!

Well, investing in that much hardware is definitely going well into the realm of diminishing returns - once you get past your primary lens or two, each addition lens adds not very much for a the cost, but we pay it any way... such is the price.

Hope you're ready for the process of carrying around a lot more stuff. :) I've actually noticed surprisingly few real "camera bags", but a pretty fair number of DSLRs (I think the Canons easily outweigh the Nikons - no accounting for taste ;) ), only maybe a couple "big" ones with battery grips and all, and I haven't noticed anyone else carrying about a tripod, much less a monopod.

I "graduated" from Maxxum SLR's to the Fuji a little less than a year ago, and have a bagful of now-worthless Maxxum gear, including two 7000i bodies and about 8 lenses, so I am (or was...) used to carrying around a lot of stuff. Add the Canon (only b/c Nikon doesn't make 'em?) camcorder, and I'm the proverbial pack mule. I have a photojournalist's vest that I usually use, with lotsa pockets for extra lenses, and so on, and always wear it at WDW. However, I'm guessing I'll probably carry only the 18-135 and 70-300VR in the park; maybe just the 18-135. I've read that it actually has a bit longer reach than the stated 135, so it alone might be enough. Of course, there's also locker rental...
