Wendy (me) 46 but feels 21 in mind - Disney mad, the planner
John (DH) 46 - getting almost at Disney mad as me
Glen (DS) 14 - our lovely little boy one minute, stroppy teenager the next and mature young man occasionally
Ashley (DS) 11 - the loud one! A lot of this holiday has been based around his needs with him being very special.
Friday 12th October
Glen and Ashley had a teacher training day from school today so after a leisurely breakfast began to do the last minute things while waiting for John to come home from work. At 10.30am went on the computer to do on-line check in, it was so easy. Printed off boarding passes and shortly after John arrived home and we had some sandwiches before I was anxiously dropping hints about making a move! Loaded the car up and we left home (making sure the cat was out - she was going to be fed by my in-laws). Got stuck in a bit of traffic near Manchester, someone had had an accident on a roundabout and it was causing real problems, so a one and a bit hour journey according to my directions off the internet turned into two hours. No problem, WE WERE ON HOLIDAY or should I say vacation!
Arrival at the SAS Radisson
Checked in really quickly and left the car keys with reception. They said we could hang onto them in case we wanted to leave the hotel! No way was I leaving, I was here to stay. A porter disappeared with our suitcases and we were given interconnecting rooms at rear of the hotel overlooking the walkway and runway (rooms no. 566 and 568). We were right at the end of the corridor so would have no one walking past our rooms - lovely. John was feeling a bit tired as hed been up since 4am so I offered to take the boys for a swim while he had a nap.
We had the pool to ourselves, the boys played in it while I had a quick swim then went and relaxed in the sauna. Life has been pretty difficult with both boys having problems, Glens medical, Ashleys learning difficulties over the last few years and Ive been getting more and more upset, tense and anxious for their futures, as I got into the sauna I just felt all the tension lift. It felt wonderful.
After about an hour I returned quietly to the room to find we had been given complimentary champagne and strawberry chocolates. I dont remember telling them we were on holiday to celebrate our anniversary but I must have done at some stage!
After downing half the bottle we decided to go an investigate where to go to bag drop in the morning. It was starting to get a bit dusky so the walkway looked lovely all lit up. Found out where to go in the airport so returned to the Brasserie in the hotel for dinner. Seated and served very quickly and had burger, pizza and sausages for our meal (cost of £55 with tip for meal and drinks).
Absolutely full up we returned to the room to watch the view for a while before taking John down to the pool and sauna. It was a little busier this time, a father a daughter were in it! Back to our room after about another hour to finish off the champagne and texted my friend who I knew would be just coming out of the hospital where we both work. I didnt feel at all guilty saying we were sipping champagne while she had just finished a busy shift!
We slept quite well, but I did wake up at 4am and took a peek out of the window and it could have been the middle of the day, the airport was a hive of activity.
Saw these three planes from the same company, I thought they looked like mummy, daddy and baby plane!
