Anniversary replica cake

Hey all!

I know this has been asked before, but I can't seem to find the answer to my question. Hopefully someone can give me some direction.

We're coming up on our 1 year anniversary! I can't believe the time has passed so quickly, but the exciting part is I get to plan a nice little weekend to Disney for us to celebrate!!! :woohoo:

I have our reservation for the California Grill on the date of our anniversary, and I was hoping to get a replica of our wedding cake as a surprise for my husband. I know I've read before that people (I think maybe Lurkyloo?) have gotten replica's from the Grand Floridian bakery, but I'm not sure how to go about getting that ordered. Also, after ordering it, will they deliver/serve the cake to use at the California Grill? Or do we have to pick it up ourselves? That would kind of ruin the surprise.

We've held onto the top tier of our cake all this time...but it's just sitting in the box that Disney gave us, so it isn't really air tight. Plus, it's HUGE. And I don't really want to eat stale cake on our anniversary. I thought getting the replica might be a better alternative. We've also hung onto the white chocolate castle topper (who knows why?! My husband can't part with the darn thing! weirdo...guess it's just going to sit in our fridge forever!).

So, if anyone has any knowledge of how to go about getting this ordered, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!!!!

I ordered a replica through the Grand Floridian private dining line, they were able to pull up our BEO (we had a wishes wedding so the GF made our cake originally) and they made us a 6 inch replica of our exact wedding cake. We had a reservation at 1900 Park Fare and they delivered it to us during dessert. You must either be staying at the hotel you order it from or have an ADR for a meal there.

If you are eating at Cali Grill you will probably want to call the Contemporary's private dining line or I believe they even have a cake line. There's a cake chatter thread on the dining/restaurant forum here that has the contact numbers.

I've written up a tutorial and FAQ on ordering cakes at WDW here. The FAQ has instructions on ordering an anniversary replica.

The way it works at the Contemporary is you call Private Dining (407-824-2955) and ask to speak with the pastry chef. They give you his email address, and then you work with him on the design, flavors, etc. Then you call Private Dining back to place the order.

The GF can pull DFTW BEOs (wow - acronym soup! :teeth:) to re-create your top layer, but I'm not sure Chef Brian at the Contemporary can do that too. At any rate, if you had a standard Disney cake design, it shouldn't be too hard for him to find.

You can have the cake delivered to your meal at CA Grill. However, I suggest pulling your server aside at some point to remind him/her about your cake b/c sometimes they forget or there's a mix-up.
