We are arriving at WDW (driving) mid-day (hopefully) on our anniversary. This will be the first trip for our DCs--4 and 6. Our ADR opens soon and I am Trying to figure out where to go, we want the meal to be special, but know it won't be the most romantic night ever...

Based on the following what do you suggest.

1) staying at the Polynesian (and my initial inclination was to do O'Hana but saw lots of negative posts lately and seems chaotic)...is that true? We have club level for now so figure we can do desert fireworks afterwards

2) our kids are usually good at restaurants

3) unless we get an in-room sitter (haven't ruled out but really don't think we will go this route) the meals with a firework views seem to be too late, especially on our first night and desire to get an early start

4) want something easy to get to...likely want to try narcooose and/or Cali Grill at some point

Thanks!

We love Ohana. I wouldn't really consider it romantic, but it'd be easy and yummy.

If you think the kids would behave after the car ride I'd do CA Grill.

CA Grill is great with kids. I took my 6 year old there in 2014 and it is his top requested repeat meal. I booked right at 5pm opening and requested a window table, and he was enthralled by the view. If you are staying at the poly you can always see the fireworks from the beach rather than keeping tired, hungry and exciting kids up late while trying to time it with a meal. If you want to be indulgent you can get some snacks and watch the fireworks.

Ohana is a great choice too and I have been seeing a lot more good reports than bad most recently (I am also on a disney foodies fb group where people post realtime reviews and photos and have only read/heard good things about it since joining)

I'm in a similar situation. We arrive on our anniversary and I was going to do Cali Grill or Narcoosees but since we are on the meal plan it is killing me to do a 2 credit meal! LOL! So I am seriously considering switching to Kona. I figure it will be the most relaxing to just hang out at our own hotel, then go down and chill by the beach with a Dole Whip and a cocktail. We adore O'Hana and will definitely eat there during our stay but, like you, it didn't feel very anniversary-ish to me! It is loud and busy with a lot of fun going on but not quite the anniversary dinner (with kiddies) I am hoping for!

I'd recommend Ohana if you are staying at the Poly- you won't have to worry about traveling to another resort (unless you want to)- I know my kids (4 and 6) are grumpy after 7pm if they don't get naps. It's not really romantic but it's a nice laid back dinner.
