Anniversarry and Room Requests

I've read many time regarding people getting a bit of special treatment when they mention to the resort that it's their anniversary, birtday, etc.

I was going to call the WL a week prior to our trip (at the same time to make room requests), and mention that it is our anniversary time during our trip, but then I got to thinking:

. . . First of all, it seems kind of tacky for me to do this as the only reason to do so, would be to hope that we would get some type of special treatment.

. . . second of all, I can imagine that people pull this move with the front desk even if it isn't an anniversary, birthday, etc. , in hopes of getting something for free.

If I were to mention this, when would I do so, and how would I do so in a tactful way?

A few weeks back we called the front desk for another reason, and when I mentioned the anniversarry to the woman on the other line all I got was dead air, and "what do you want" attitude (I mentioned this in an earlier post).

Also, how do I go about talking to the resort specifically about a room request? I was told to call them the week we are going, but I'm not sure what that means . . . exactly a week before, 4 days before? I don't want to be a pain in the a.ss if I call 7 days before and they tell me that they don't have my reservation, then I try 6 days before with the same answer, and so on. At the same time I've got to try and slip it in, that our annivesary is that week as well. By the time I'm finished nagging them, they will have us in first floor room sandwiched between an ice/ vending machine and a noisy elevator overlooking a trash compactor.
:scared1:

I just don't want to seem pushy, so any advice on how to go about this would be great.

Also, I'm assuming I can call the resort directly without getting some international WDW number?

Thanks,

~I~

The best thing to do is mention it at the time of booking. I definitely wouldn't call the resort directly and tell them repeatedly how it's your anniversary. That really will make them think you're seeking a handout.

You could also call and say that you want to organize something special for your anniversary celebration, and get a contact for that. That way, they know it's your anniversary, so if they're planning on doing something, they'll do it. And you'll also have whatever you organized as your real celebration.

For room requests, call the reservations number and ask them to put a note in your reservation.

Cheers!

We just got back from our anniversary trip. I mentioned that this was our 32 nd anniversary to the CM that made our room ressies. I also mentioned it when I made my ADRs for Kona, Boma and Cape May.

As far as room requests, I left that up to what ever happened when we checked in. I wanted a balcony at Poly and we had a patio which is actually what my dh wanted so that worked out. I've learned you shouldn't make a lot of room requests, just choose the one that is the most important like location or having a balcony. And I think you don't need to call, you need to make sure your room request is on your ressies, so either call CRO and have them add it to your ressies or call your travel agent to add it to your ressies. As far an upgrade, that's purely pixie dust, sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.

You can ask for anniversary buttons when you are at WL from the concierage. It's kind of neat how the CMs will wish a happy anniversary. When we had our anniversary dinner at Kona's, the waitress knew it was our 32nd anniversary. We got a special dessert.

Wear your anniversary pins when you go to the parks, you never know what could happen. And it won't hurt to be holding hands:) We got quite a few cute comments about being married 32 years and still holding hands.

AND get one of the photopass cms to take your pic in front of the castle kissing...really nice pic.

I tried that back in March when we booked, but the Disney rep. basically didn't care, and said to bring it up closer to the trip to the resort personell.

Same deal here, what I was told here was that there's nothing that can happen until the week we are going to be there, and that them noting it so early may not even matter, so we didn't.

I must have crappy luck with these people. See my previous response regarding me mentioning this when booking the reservation back in March.

I've never heard of this. Thanks.

When we celebrated our 10th in WDW, I mentioned to CM when I made the reserved room. I also mentioned it to CM when I book ADR on the night of our anniversary. One day when we returned, we got autograph picture from Pooh and disposal camera for pictures.
We are going this Nov. and will celebrating our 19th. I did the same, mentioned when I booked room, and when I made ADR for the night of our anniversary. I didn't mention for the other ADR's because that would be tacky to me, to try to celebrate at every meal.
Now I will say on a totally different trip, no celebrations whatsoever we entered our room and had something don't even remember saying something about being on our honeymoon. :rotfl: :rotfl: I laugh because we had 3 nieces with us ages 7,9, &12. I'm sure the person that delivered to room said yeah right honeymoon!
The biggest reason is hoping we get our room request king bed, location, etc. not for any freebies!

I called SSR about a week ago to request the type of room I would prefer (we just want to request a view of DTD to see the fireworks). The CM I talked to said to call back about 5 days before we arrive because they don't even receive our paperwork until that time. And from what I understand, room assignments are not made until the day of your arrival. But I do plan to call back to make the request.

Also, DH & I celebrated our 15th anniversary in May (we also honeymooned at WDW), but b/c of timing/scheduling, we are just now able to go down next week. I definitely plan to mention it & get our pins. I am not really asking for special treatment, but it is a special time for us, so why not mention it??

I called the CR a few days ago to request a king sized bed. I just said that it would be nice to have a king bed because it's our HONEYMOON! Just make sure you put emphasis on Honeymoon. And the CM said "Okay I'll make a note that you are on your Honeymoon, and want a king sized bed"

It's as simple as that!

if you want to be absolutely sure that there is something special for your anniversary your best bet is to purchase something yourself.

No need to call the resort, because you are actually calling a call center not the actual resort. If you have it noted in your reservation that will help.

But be prepared for them to do nothing. Many many people are celebrating special occasions at WDW and they can't do it for everyone.

I must've gotten a good CM, because when I mentioned it was our anniversary trip, she specifically marked it down, and when we hung up (several minutes later), she said congratulations. I don't expect anything, but it would be nice for them to have our anniversary buttons there for us when we check in :)

When I called WDW I got a great CM, too, and mentioned that we would be celebrating #22 in September. She noted it on our ressies & also mentioned about the buttons being at the resort. Also, when I called Cape May to make ADR they noted that it was going to be our anniversary dinner. When we did this 2 year ago, we got an autographed pic from Mickey Mouse wishing us a Happy 20th Anniversary when we checked into the resort. I thought that was special.

We are going for our 15th anniversary. It's nice if something happens, but I feel it's great just being able to be there for that event.... can't wait to go!:dance3:
