Ankle Tendonitis

Hi all,

Since April I have been suffering with Ankle Tendonitis. I am visiting Disney World with my family next week, July 8- July 15. I am concerned that I won't be able to stand for long periods of time and walk. The doctor has prescribed me Celebrex, but I haven't used it yet, because I dislike medication and have heard negative things about Celebrex. I figured I'd start using it this week so that the swelling goes down. I also ice it daily and I use a special cream that was made from a pharmacy in Oregon, it's not really working. So my question is does anyone have a shoe that they could recommend that I can wear on my trip, a shoe that is lightweight and has support so that my ankles won't be horrible. I would also appreciate suggestions on how to cope with being in Disney with a bad ankle in the middle of July. Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Thanks,
Anna :worried:

Another question I have is would I be able to join my family on the line after they waited? This way I would be able to sit while they were on line?

Thanks,
Anna

I would encourage you to find some anti-inflammatory that works before the trip. I would also encourage you to consider ECV rental. There is a LOT of walking at WDW and the heat will make swelling (and possibly pain) worse. Bring ziploc bags and ask for ice from CS to ice it during the day.

I went in May post Achilles surgery and I wore Brooks running shoes with super feet inserts.

As to joining your family, during peak times I don't know that it will be possible. If you wait outside, seated--you will have no way of knowing where your family is in line once they are indoors. Also, many queues are so narrow it would be difficult for you to navigate through the snarling crowds.

With an ECV you and your family could stay together and you can remain seated.

It seems that I remember NSAIDs needing a bit of time for the anti inflammatory benefits so it is good to start now. (Or soon!)

I'd second the ecv rental. You will be able to enjoy your trip so much more.

For sure consider an ECV. You wait in the vehicle and they wait with you in line!

When I needed an ice pack for a knee injury I just went and asked at first aid.

My dd13 has achilles tendonitis since late May. Initially heel lifts which are inserted into shoes helped. Also walking with a cane helped quite a bit. DD also prefers to have an ankle support/ace bandage on when walking.

right now dd is going to pt 3 times a week and is finally weight bearing again. she still ices after pt and sometimes at bedtime. at pt they used to do heat at the beginning of the appt then end with ice but they stopped the heat. The only medication dd took was ibuprofen but she never felt it worked much.

DD has very flat feet so arch supports were highly recommended. orthaheel shoes were recommended but We have not tried them. DD got a pair of Clark sandals which are supposed to be good for achilles tendonitis.

Right now dd does walk around ec but she also says her foot hurts at times. We have a trip to Disneyland coming up and we might bring the cane and/or rent a wheelchair if needed. I think she is too young to rent an ECV but need to check that out.

YES! They do have them! And the nurses there are SO nice! I liked having a Ziploc bag as well so I could get ice at any CS location.

I had surgery for Achilles rupture in January. Once I got up and walking swelling was a real issue and I could not find any anti-inflammatory that worked. Ibuprofen was about useless.

I have gotten the most relief from an OTC cream available at health food stores: Christopher's Original Formula Complete Tissue and Bone Ointment.
