Animator's question

We are cruising in October with our DS5 on the Magic. From these boards, I as somewhat expecting our rotation to be APLAPLA. This puts our first night dinner at Animator's. My son is VERY excited about the club and wants to go right away the first night.

We have late seating and the club opens at 7:00pm. What I am trying to find out is the timing of the "show" (color change to the restaurant). Do we need to drag him out of the club before our dinner seating so he won't miss it, or could we leave him there for 1/2 hour or so into dinner and drag him out when the "show" really gets going? I know it is described as "gradual" and I am going to have a very cranky child at dinner if I drag him there and he has to wait "forever" before anything happens. :)

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

The show is kind of gradual. Some of the “pictures” on the walls change from black and white to color as different music is played. Then the pictures change, and the process is repeated. Other areas of the restaurant also get color added slowly. There is a big finale right before desert. It’s pretty cool, at least we think so.

Our youngest son was also 5 the first time we cruised. While he thought the show was cool, I don’t remember him being overly impressed. I think I would vote for picking up part way through the meal. Ask your server what timing seems best.

Have a great voyage.

Our kids who were 5 & 7 at the time thought it was neat how it changed colors, but they were not overly-thrilled either.

Most of the "show" starts towards the end of your meal.

Enjoy your cruise!!

My 4 1/2 year old thought the "show" was ok...she liked a few pictures when they came on in color but she really could have skipped it and not cared...we finished dinner and left before it was over since we erally didn't care for dessert.

Actually one of the fun aspects of Animator's is the music. If you listen carefully to the music (sometimes it is hard because the restaurant can be noisy) you will notice an association between the music and the character that comes to life (changes from B & W to color).

We enjoy trying to figure out the song, what movie it is from and then looking around the restaurant to see if we can find the character that is part of that movie and music.

Enjoy,

Jeff

Both of our kids 3 & 5 at the time, enjoyed AP the most of the dining rooms. They really liked watching the cartoons & we were placed where they could watch 2 of the screens on the wall. Luckily we were in there 3 times.

I would expect a 5 year old to think it was a bit cool to see but to be dragged out of the club just to see it....I wouldn't.....

I think he would be much more impressed with the club and activities than seeing the walls change color. We have seen it many, many times and it is nice....but not really that big a deal...it is not a vacation breaker if he does not see it....and I am sure your son will not ask you in 10 years why you didn't take him from the club to see the walls change color.

I don't think you are guaranteed to get any particular rotation. It isn't known until you arrive and get you KTTW card so you could be surprised and get a different rotation. We got LAPLAPL were very pleased. We were a family of 3 with a 6 year old son. I would take him to the restaurant and watch the show. It was fun and my son thought it was pretty cool. They don't understand or appreciate it quite the way adults do, but he still thought it was neat.

Maybe it was the build up before, but we were a bit disappointed by the show. Oh sure, it was cool, but maybe we were expecting more.

Thank you everyone for your comments!

My DS5 does want to see Animator's since he has seen it on the DCL DVD, so if we end up with APL rotation, I like the suggestion of asking the servers when we should fetch him from the club. If nothing much happens for a 1/2 hour or so it should work out fine. We'll take him to the club at 7pm (we'll register him earlier so we don't have to do that then.) and he'll get a couple hours there and then come have desert with us.

If we end up with a different rotation, he'll have already been to the club before we get to Animator's and he can make his own decision on what he wants to do...

Thank you - this board sure takes a lot of stress and "what if" out of planning this trip! :)
