Animator's Palate @ SSR

Has anyone given any thought to the Animator's Palate restaurant opening at SSR? Not much has been written about this feature. I am assuming that this will be similar to the restaurant of the same name on the DCL.

I have never taken the cruse but the concept of this restaurant at SSR has peaked my interest. Does anyone have any thoughts about the cost catagory that this restaurant will fall into. I am assuming it might in a $30 - $35 dinner range.

Is anyone else interested in the reataurant?

They go into detail about the food service at SSR in the Vacation Magic.

I think it sounds pretty nice. It seems like they are going to have a nice selection of food and you will be able to sit down and eat or take it back to your villa. I like the fact that they are going to have much more than burgers and chicken strips. The article says you will be able to pick what you want on your pizza or grab a gourmet packaged meal from the case-like meatloaf with mashed potatoes.

It sounds like a "gourmet market" type of set up. We have a few of these in our area and you can stop by and pick up a fresh made dinner for your family without any notice.

I think AP will be very popular.

The "carry-out" feature sounds like it will be a nice option for those staying at Old Key West, also ... since it will be so close...

A few months ago it was mentioned in the Member Clubhouse that food delivery may be available to villas from Artist's Palette.

In the Winter Vacation Magic it says that food service will be available for grab and go or grab and sit. It doesn't mention anything about delivery.

I don't expect any similarity between the Artist's Palette at SSR and the color-changing Animator's Palette dining rooms on the DCL ships.

Well, I guess there's one similarity -- similar names.

Sounds great!!! We also figured that we would eat at Downtown Disney when we stayed, but having a decent restaurant at the resort will truly be a bonus!!!!

It appears to me that this thread has gotten off track somewhere. To reiterate, there will not be a full service restaurant at SSR. The Artist's Palette will be an upscale food court. This was described in the Vacation Magic article referenced earlier in the thread by floridafam.

The OP confused the concept for the Artist's Palette with the DCL restaurant named Animator's Palette. There will be full service restaurants at the nearby DTD, but none at SSR.

I don't think it's meant to give the DD restaurants any competition. With all of the dining options at DD, it didn't make sense to add another sit-down option at SSR. Artist's Palette should serve mostly as convenience dining for those who don't want to take the time for a sit-down meal.

I must say I'm impressed by the idea of buying a full meal for the family as a carry-out or cook-in, and taking it back to the room. There are plenty of times when that's more convenient than schlepping the family into a restaurant, especially when everyone is tired.

You are right--that was very likely the thinking. The old Seasons restaurant had virtually nobody eating there.
Unfortunately, of all the restaurants at DD, few are what I'd really call "good". Would have been nice to have had a table service spot at SSR----.
But I'm sure those who stay at SSR will be able to support the food court.

Sounds like it will have some extra's outside of the pizza/burger stuff, which is fine with me. We usually try to have one nice meal while we are at Disney (usually Artists Pointe at Wilderness Lodge), but I am sure I will use the SSR Food Court a lot too! Plus, DD does have a good number of options!

Personally, I have no problem with a food court. With two little ones, we only manage (risk) one or two table service meals in a week's stay. We often eat breakfast and lunch in our room (since we're there for nap time anyway), but I think Artist's Palette will be right up our alley.

My main concern at this point is the location. It's quite a distance from the resort buildings. Guess a lot will depend on the location of parking and traffic flow through the resort.

The way we understand it is that it will be like the Pepper Market at Coronado Springs. For those of you who are not familiar it, the Pepper Market is basically a food court on steroids. We loved it!

There will be a number of "stations" where you can get many different kinds of food beyond pizza/burgers. The dishes are prepared when you order it. You then take your selections to a table. I'm not sure if they will have the servers like the Pepper Market does or not (refill drinks and bus your tables for a 10% gratuity).


It is definitely not a full-service, four-star dining experience, but it is excellent in it's own right and light years beyond a typical food court.

I think it's a great idea to implement this type of dining option at SSR since DD and it's array of great restaurants is just across the lake!!!

Mickey1010...Wow...if this is true, I'll be really excited! We also love the Pepper Market...it's great to have so many choices in an environment that's friendly for kids (as well as having foods that adults like!).

tjkraz - we feel the same as you about risking table service with a couple of small kids. I'm leary about making too many PSs for our first trip. My 3 & 5 yo boys aren't much into sitting these days! Even though I love to dine out, I feel sure we'll take advantage of the prepared meals at Artist's Pallette and eat in the villa with the kids at night.
