I was so excited when I heard that Disney was opening another value resort that would accommodate larger families, however, I just saw the rates and they are SO much more than I thought they would be. I know they have multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, but honestly I wish they were just a larger room and less expensive. We are a family that doesn't spend much time in our room and I just can't see spending over 300.00 a night on a room.

Anyone else feel this way?:sad1:

Yup.

I was really jazzed when I heard about the resort. Thought it would be great to have cheapo suites, even if they did have the tackiness that goes with the themes of the cheapo hotels. And as cheapo hotels go, I really loved the idea of the theme there. A lot.

But that's ridiculous. Might as well get two or three rooms...or two or three moderate rooms. Or a deluxe room.

For the cost of those "suites", I can go somewhere far less tacky and get two to four bedrooms (sometimes two master suites, one with a jacuzzi), two bathrooms, a full kitchen (with a BIG fridge, microwave, oven, sink, cabinets to put stuff away, fully stocked), a dining area, a living room, a patio or balcony, a washer and dryer and a rental car. I'll have enough left over to buy groceries and a few meals in restaurants.

Considering their location, I'll add MAYBE 5 minutes to a trip. But depending on the park I've been visiting and where I've chosen to stay, I may add NO time to my commute.

The only reason I'd go there would be to keep my "stayed in all the Disney hotels" status up-to-date. And I'm thinking I can allow my membership to that club to lapse, lol.

If Disney wants to charge this much for these rooms then it is no big deal to me. The problem I have is they shouldn't call it a value resort. I consider a value resort a place I can stay with rates that are affordable and I am able to pay on my families budget, i.e., PoP and the All Star Resorts. Like some of you have said you can get two rooms at the real value resorts and come out ahead.

agree..I have no problem with them charging that rate, just don't call it a VALUE resort ..That is not a VAlUE resort rate -even for the bigger room size.

aren't they more expensive then POr for a family of 5? If so then they sure aren't a value hotel to me

Rooms for 5 at POR will be going away next year....there will be no room for trundles after queen-sized beds are put in.

I thought that there was talk of Murphy beds going into POR. Someone on the boars talked to a CM and that's what they said. :confused3

AoA does cost more than POR. We were all set to book a Cars suite but I refused to do it when I saw the price. We are not in our room enough to pay that kind of money for a "value" resort.

On a side note...we are booked at POR as a family of 5 for November of 2012. I called last week when I first saw mention of no trundles and the CM I spoke with said they had no info about that and that it would be a huge mess since they have been steadily booking those rooms for next year. All the other options (family suites, deluxes, cabins) for families of 5 cost more money and the CM said she could not see how they could all be magically upgraded.

Also, we stayed in CSR last trip and there would have been room for a trundle even with the queen beds. It would have been super tight but it could have worked.

my "issue" with the family suites is that you pay top dollar and get value service, ie multi bus stops, not sit down rest at the resort, no water slide - just to name a few things that you get a moderate/deluxe resorts
imo for what they charge you should be getting much more

its pretty sad when you can get 3 rooms at a mod for the same cost of a family value suite
the only plus to the family suite vs 2+ rooms is that you are guaranteed to be "next to" each other

Right. I wouldn't have been so upset if Disney didn't call it a value. But, I don't understand why they don't accommodate to families of 5 on a budget without forcing us to stay off property.

Well, I have a resort CM in the family and she is good friends with someone who works at POR and this is what she told me. There is no room for murphy beds either.

I have a feeling that those that booked POR for 5 will be moved to the family suites or DVC resorts.

Looking at value season 1, a standard room is $94 @ AoA vs $84 @ ASMovies, not too bad. A family suite is $248 vs $198, that's a big difference. Are the family suites different than All Star Movies?

Lets compare apples to apples. First of all a POR room does not have a second bathroom, is smaller and does not have a kitchenette. A fair comparison would be Animation to ASMu Family Suites. I have not seen the floor plan or the amenities to justify the increase in costs. We are looking at a FS for next August and the difference is $400 for 9 days between the two. Unless there is something there to justify the extra expense, we will be staying at ASMu!

For values season, a POR standard is $159. For 2 rooms, that would be $318, so much higher than a AoA family suite ($248). You really can't compare a single POR room to the family suite.

Sounds like Disney is punishing familys with more than 2 kids... I'm surprised the POR is not accepting families of 5 anymore... bummer... we liked that resort...

If all you want is more space, you best option is going to be 2 value rooms. And I can't see that changing. Disney is not going to build large rooms, and add all sorts of amenities to them, and charge a value rate for them. It just won't happen.

POR is still accepting reservations for parties of 5. That is why I find it hard to believe that they are going to be getting rid of the trundles. They will literally have hundreds if not thousands of reservations to change because they are booking into late Nov and early Dec 2012 at this point. That is A LOT of people to move!

Anyway, I understand that a POR room and a family suite is not a fair comparison but AoA would cost us almost $500 more than a suite at ASMu. I understand that AoA is a brand new resort but it's not worth it IMHO. If it had a TS restaurant, water slide, etc like dmband mentioned then I could understand the price difference but as it stands, I just don't get it.

We were going to have a group of 6 and had planned to stay AoA until the prices came out. Since 2 out of the 6 are only coming for 4 of the 8 nights, it's actually going to be cheaper for us to rent points and get two studios at a DVC resort than it would've been to stay at this so-called "value". Go figure.

I was disappointed as well. I'm sure this one guest won't make a difference, but there's no way I'm booking AOA at those rates. I'd do a cabin at FW before I'd go to AOA. Or two rooms at POP.

Yes they are we are booked at AOA but I keep thinking we could save money and be in a Mod. Only thing holding me back is I am worried about the trundle bed. Now if I could book a trundle bed room and bring my own air mattress I would got to PORS. Less money and a mod. :confused3
