We were at MGM on 01/20 and went through "The Magic of Disney Animation".
It is not a working studio anymore. The first part is an presentation with a CM and Mushu (from Mulan) on how a character goes from idea to "movie star".
Then you move through to the Studio - it is still set up, but all the desks are empty. A CM does and Question and Answer session. The CM we had, talked about the movies that have been made there.
Two questions that were asked and answered....
what happened to the animators - they were all laid off last monday - 01/12th. All animation is now done out of the California Studios, and while they still have some "manual" animators, most animation is now done digitally
What will happen to the studios/will they be refurbished into a different attraction - at this time there are no plans, or none that have been made announced anyway.
There were many more but they were about the process of animation, and various movies.
The next part of the tour was a lesson in animation, you get to draw and take home a Disney Character.
It took about 40 minutes all up - 20 minutes for the tour and 20 minutes for the drawing lesson.
It is one of the attractions in MGM and does not cost extra.
