Hi What is the animantion academy? Is it for kids only ? Is it an animator showing the crowd how to draw? Or ia there more personalized assistance from an animator helping the kids or teaching the kids? How much time is allocated for each drawing ? Can we stay and draw a second character ? Tia

The whole experience lasts 20 minutes, including loading and unloading the show, and any previews of videos they sometimes show. The animator stays on stage and the audience sits in bleacher style seats with a board to draw on. There is no individual help. They clear the theater after each session, but you can walk around and line up again for the next show.

All ages are welcome to draw! I personally love these classes! They normally have a schedule of classes and who they will be drawing, at the entrance Animation building.

Have fun,

When we went it was mostly adults, but my kids tried their best and enjoyed it. You sit down with a clip board and pencil and follow along with the instructions.

Here's my Olaf!

It's for all ages. I really loved it last time I went. I think I'll do it multiple times next time I'm in the park.

It's pretty fun. I've done it like 13 times already but not once have they drawn Goofy. :headache:

It's pretty cool though, and a nice way to beat the heat (or rain). The only problem from then on is keep my picture safe for the rest of the day. Don't want to crumple it.

:goofy:

The clerks at the store at the Animation Academy (Off the Page) always offer us rubber bands for our drawings. It makes them much easier to carry

Roll them up, put on the rubber band! They used to give bags, too.

But then you have to spend time at home unfurling them, of course.

For little little kids, they might not care that they can't follow along. Once they are much older, they might be able to follow along. For the in between years, make sure they know they don't *have to* follow along, they can draw whatever they want. For DS it was "aliens and monsters" for a few years. :)

We were there last month and really enjoyed the animation academy. It was quick and we did it before lining up for the Aladdin show. They do have a list of the chraracters that they are drawing on a schedule near the front, so you can pick your character. It was very relaxing and enjoyable and a nice break from the heat!

We just started going to animation academy a year ago when DD was 6. She loves it, I love it and my mom loves it too! DH usually sits in the lobby while DS naps in his stroller. We keep going back from classes until DS wakes up. I have my favorite drawings pinned up at work.

Whole family loves Animation Academy! There is no personalized assistance as it's a 15 min session but all ages can have fun. If you want to draw more characters you just exit and walk right back in. It makes an excellent break in the day. When we were there they had a schedule that stated what they were drawing and when.

I can't even count how many times we did AA this last week - at least 8, maybe more. We loooooooved it! All 5 of us, ages 35, 33, 13, 8, and 4. The 4 year old went rogue sometimes and just drew whatever he wanted, but that was fine with us and him. It was awesome! We're so addicted to it, in fact, that we came home and looked up (and participated in) AA class videos on YouTube! :lmao:

At first, my 9yo DS didn't want to go in there. But then, he was HOOKED. We could have stayed in there all day and he wouldn't have had enough. It was really fun, and made for some cool self-made souvenirs to take home.

We exited and re-entered the room probably 4 times in a row? It was never packed full. It is perfect for hot (or rainy/cold) days, gives you a break from the elements.

This is one of those things that doesn't seem like much from the outside but turns out to be a highlight of a trip. Our kids are still too young I think to do this, but the one time I went without them, it was pretty cool. My Daisy drawing was terrible, but still had a lot of fun anyway. When I got home and showed my drawing to my 4 year old daughter, she immediately recognized it as Daisy, so I guess that's something.

We have put this on our list of things to do for 2 years now and have yet to do it. Come November, this will be one of the things we try. Should prove interesting since I can't draw anything but a stick figure...lol...

For those who've done it, how difficult is it to follow along? I mean, hopefully what I'm trying to draw will resemble what's on the screen, but either way it looks like fun.

I am NOT artistic - AT.ALL. But, my drawings turned out recognizable and I enjoyed it!

My son actually got a "how to sketch Disney characters" book in the gift shop adjacent to that building and I find myself using it now too!

I am NOT a good visual artist. But my characters all look like the characters they are supposed to. Well, sort of. My Mickey looked drunk and my Pooh looked a little like Brian from Family Guy. But like I said, the fact that they looked like ANYTHING coming from me is amazing.

I am not an artist by any stretch of the imagination, and these are (some) of the drawing I cranked out at AA last week:

Are there any characters that are easier to draw? I understand the ducks are tricky. I'd like to do Animation Academy again but am concerned that my friend might get frustrated if she has a hard time with the character. (Jack Skellington looks like he might be easy but I'm pretty sure my friend wouldn't like him.)
