They carry Mayan and Aztec calendars...so I have been telling folks that April is when they are full strength at night... I photograph the beautiful snake tracks in the flashflood wash... BUT... March 13 2024...dog and I encountered a 6 footer on our normal late afternoon walk in the shade of the canyons... and it was HUNAGRY..!!!. never had one raise up at us....a good 20 yards away and it wanted to mess with us

But it was on my childhood ranch in Joshua Tree that dangerous... several 3 feet away rattlesnakes encounters and scorpions and centipedes and black widow spiders and tarantulas and their wasp predators.... coyotes... AND the adults really scared us away with Gila monster beaded lizard
