I try to follow the Rumors and New board as much as I can. I don't know how often pictures are taken for Google Map but could someone please tell me what is being built to the north east of Everest in Animal Kingdom? I would attach a link but each time I try, it's just a general link to google maps. Sorry.

Also, if someone would be so kind as to show me on a map, exactly how much property/land Disney owns in Florida. I have always wanted to see it on a map to get an idea.

Thanks!

The only thing I can see northeast of EE on google earth are trees. There's a large open area north-northwest of EE that looks like it's been excavated, but I've heard nor seen anything about what this might be.

Hope this map helps you:

There is a perimeter road that goes up to the Conservation Station right behind Everest, so I don't think there is any sort of extension of AK that way.

However, further northeast towards Coronado Springs is Western Way - where is the development that is supposed to be going along there located? Perhaps thats it?

According to that Map Animal Kingdom is outside of Disney owned land! :rotfl2:

I saw that after I posted it, and thought "What is wrong with this map"? Did look around but couldn't find anything else that would show the size of WDW relative to the surrounding area.

I've been wondering for a while what this is going to be. Below is a wide-area shot from google maps:

WDW_AK1.jpg

Notice on the right just below center. That was during construction of Expedition Everest. Now, look just up and to the left. This area is much MUCH bigger than the EE construction site.

Here's a closer view:

Whatever it is, it's going to be huge. It has to be at least 100 acres. It's bigger than Kilimanjaro Safari.

If Google had current aerial photographs instead of ones that are often several years old, it could be a useful tool for spotting new construction before it's announced.

My guess is that the image is a couple of years old and that it shows the staging area for the construction of Expedition Everest.

If you look at nearby Animal Kingdom Lodge in Google Maps, you'll see that the aerial image is from before the construction of Kidani Village began.

The maps at google maps are dated, but that area is not the site for EE. If you go to google earth and zoom in you can see that EE is visible to the south of the area in question. The area may or may not be a site that is set for anything special. If you go on the sunrise safari you get driven behind AK and you see a bunch of the behind the scenes stuff. I'm still checking it out, but it looks like the area for some of the Disney horticulture. We saw a lot of that driving through on the sunrise safari bus this year.

Side note: The pics of the Contemporary area are certainly dated. The new construction has not even started on the maps. The old buildings and tennis courts are still there.

Boy, that is one huge staging area. Besides, Everest looks completed (or almost) in the shot. Also, the land there seems to be cleared. Would they clear land/vegetation just for a staging area?

That is a pretty big area. I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't clearing an area for a new land. It certainly is enough space!

I guess only time will tell.

i'm sure that piece of land has been like that for quite a bit, i remember this time last year looking and it looked similar.

I would imagine it was the staging for EE.

I know its bigger, but for a project like EE, they needed fill dirt (look at the depression on this site) and staging for all kinds of bulldozers, cranes, parking for employees, etc. etc.

... do i really know thr answer to something that the DISers dont know???

This area is going to be an adult-only animal centered evening-only park called Night Kingdom. Its Disney's answer to Discovery Cove and is gonna be mad expensive.... like 250 per person!

See http: // jimhillmedia. com/ blogs/ jim_hill/archive/2008/02/15/night-kingdom-to-reimagine-the-disney-theme-park-going-experience. aspx"

(take the spaces out, my post count is too low to post links  )

That article says it supposed to be near PI, but somewhere else we read it is going to be right by AK since thats where all the animals already are.
