Animal Kingdom secret path

Was talking with a friend recently about the Animal Kingdom secret path, the one that started/ended behind what is now a smoking area on the paved path between Asia and Africa. It was one of my favorite things when the park first opened, but I know Disney has not maintained it and has planted foliage at the entrances. Just wondering is anyone had ventured on it in the least year or two.

It was probably 4-5 years ago when I last looked for the path, and even then I couldn't see any remnants of it.

But yes, it was neat to go somewhere that looked like you were going where you didn't belong, in a "stay off my lawn" sort of way.

Thanks. I read that Joe Rohde really wanted to create more of those kinds of experiences in the park.

And speaking of the smoking location, an announcement was made just a few days ago saying that the smoking location previously near Festival of the Lion King has relocated to the Bradley Falls area (the path between Africa and Asia). The FOLK location will remain available through May 26.

As of my time at DAK in 2015, I can confirm that the no part of the path is there. The entire thing has been removed and cast members are advised to keep guests out of the trees.

Isn't the Smoking area on the old path now?

The current smoking area is on what we might call the "walkway bypass". But the Secret Path actually took you off that piece of the walkway up into the trees via an unpaved, slightly cleared path with series of stepping stones.
