If we went to safari around 10AM is that too late to see "active" animals. We have Donald's PS at 9:10AM. I didn't want to make it too early since I was afraid I won't wake up :)

Hi MM,

If you do Donald's at 9:10 you probably won't be on the safari by 10. After finishing your breakfast you still have to walk all the way to the back of AK and either wait in line or FastPass it.

The animal activity often depends on the weather. We have done the safari about 10 or 10:30 in both February and August and have seen a decent number of animals wandering around.

Good luck,

Bob

Like the previous poster said it will really depend on the weather. It seems the hotter it is the less active the animals are. I have found that most character meals take us about an hour from the time we are seated to complete.

Can I do AK in 1/2 day?
The plane departs at 3:00 p.m. and I was thinking of taking the ME back to the airport. That being said I would have to be back at the resort (All Star Movie) by 12:00 noon in order to get the bus. Is this "doable" or am I pushing it? I will be using the bus system to get back from the AK to the resort.

What is considered "hot"? 80, 90, 100 degrees?
You'd have to ask the animals!! ;)

It warms up pretty fast in WDW this time of year once the sun comes out. I'm not sure how often it hits 100 in Orlando--and it won't while you are there-- but next week should be pretty warm. Generally speaking, the earlier the better in the warm weather.

How long of a walk is it from the safari to Breakfastosaurus? We are planning on going on an EMH morning, doing the safari, then head over to Breakfastosaurus for our PS at 10:10...will we make it?

The last time I went on the safari in May, it was 2:30pm and about 82 degrees. The animals were very active, and we were not in any way disappointed with the number we saw.

I know that there's this urban legend out there that you HAVE to go in the morning to see the animals at their best, but it's honestly not true. I have been to safaris at all times of the day, during rain and sun, during heat and cold, and I have never been disappointed. And for the life of me, I can't figure out why people think that animals who are indigenous to Africa would find it too hot in Florida!

We did the safari in December 03, and were disappointed. In December 04, we skipped the safari and went on the two walking trails instead, and enjoyed them MUCH more than the safari. Being able to move at your own pace, and to stop and observe for whatever length of time you wanted to spend was, in our opinion (wife, 6YO daughter, and self) much better than the safari ride, especially when you consider the wait. Just my $0.02.

I have done the safari several times at various times of day. There are almost always lots of animals to be seen. Last month our safari started slowly as far as seeing animals, but we rounded a corner & WOW - lots of animals. Don't forget to also do the walk to see the animals in Africa & Asia.

We just returned and did the safari two times in a row. The animals were all out; some were just being lazy, some were moving about. The first time through the hippos were all in the water. When we went back through, about 15 minutes later, they were out and eating. I think it's just luck! Oh and we went about 9:30 if that helps.

We went on the safari last week at 1:30 in the afternoon and saw a lot of animals! I also have to add that there was no wait at all in the line. :sunny:

The safari areas are set up in such a way to encourage the animals to be visible at all times. I've never had a bad ride at any time of day.

Hojo- whether you can "do" AK in a half day depends on what you want to do. If you just want to hit the major rides, you probably can. But you miss most of the park that way.

I must have low standards...if I see the animals, I'm impressed! We've gone the last two years over the summer and did the safari both times right before lunch. I'm not sure how "active" the animals were, a lot were laying around, but we still saw quite a few. On our last trip we had to stop because a giraffe decided to walk right in front of our vehicle!

We went last wk after the 4 pm parade and saw a ton of animals. We even got to see the lioness w/ the male lion! It was overcast and not too warm that day.
