I vaguely remember hearing about a new show/night/fireworks (?) Anyone know or see?
I could not find it on Disney's site and search here was not functioning or helpful.
Thanks.

The nighttime show they are working on for Animal Kingdom is called "Rivers of Light". Not a lot is known about it right now but it is under construction-- rumors are pointing to an opening around March 2016. It looks like it's going to use a lot of projection/fountain technology similar to World of Color at Disney California Adventure.

Here's a Disney Parks Blog post about it.

Last year there was Harambe Nights - a musical production in the FOLK theater and small bites and entertainment afterwards.

Not too much info is released yet about it. But that's some of the construction their working on now.

The nighttime safari will also be debuting around the same time it opens I'd imagine. I know Disney is currently hiring nighttime safari CM's

If I had to guess, I would assume this show wouldn't include fireworks due to the proximity to all of the animals - but I could be wrong.
Right. Whatever they do at AK it won't be fireworks. WOC type of thing would be perfect and fit in exactly with the Avatar experiences.

Right. Couldn't figure out how Disney could safely comfortably do fireworks with the animals near. Thanks. Not sure what I am remembering.

I really hope its like WOC at at DLR. I've only traveled out there once but it is one of our favorite nighttime shows.

I hope they don't do fireworks, that would seem rather cruel to the animals.

All indications point to no fireworks and it will involve music and water.

“Rivers of Light” promises to be an innovative show unlike anything ever seen in Disney Parks, combining live music, floating lanterns, water screens and swirling animal imagery. The show will magically come to life on the broad, natural stage of the Discovery River, between Discovery Island and Expedition Everest, delighting our guests and truly capping off a full day of adventures at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

We look forward to sharing more details on the Disney Parks Blog in the future – about “Rivers of Light” and other new entertainment experiences coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

I both look forward to and dread the changes coming to AK. The new attractions and entertainment are going to be awesome ........ And are going to bring hoards of people swarming into my favorite park!
I'm right there with you. AK is a favorite of ours and I often look forward to visits there for 2 reasons. 1 we love the animals and we always feel more relaxed at that park. and 2, we look forward to the park because we know it's a shorter day. Having that early close is huge to help force us to make it an early night.

We always use our Animal Kingdom day to our advantage. Being a short day, we typically get out of the park around 5:00, or maybe 5:30, and take the bus to the Polynesian, where we enjoy supper at Ohana, then ride the monorail over to MK, and hop a bus back to POR from there.

This is going to ruin that for us lol.

However, I am very much looking forward to the Avatarland expansion, as well as the nighttime safari, and the new nighttime show.

This may have one unintended side effect. The mornings may be slower at first, with folks opting to sleep in and have a late start, to stay for the night entertainment, since they'll no longer want to make it an early day. I guess our plan will probably be to start early, leave for a break and then return at night. Though due to the remoteness of the park that will be tougher to do. May make a long TH lunch reservation a favorite break.

This should could be pretty cool, especially with some of the effects Avatar will have. AK is a great park at night. Really takes on a different feel. Whenever I see it open late, I try to go. Of course with a show, it probably will not be as dead later at night like it is now, but still a beautiful site to see when it is dark. Obviously, not a lot of animals to see after 5 but that is okay. they need their rest.

It is also "thought" there will be some sort of "light show" featuring the Tree of Life.

That is why the area in front of ToL was recently expanded.

DAK is really kicking it up a notch!:)

I hope its similar to the "Mermaids, Myths, and Monsters" nightime show that used to be
at "SeaWorld"- (just "DisneyFIED) a bit !!

I found it interesting that I was able to book a Safari fastpass at 6-7 pm with a 7pm park close for this May. I thought they stopped the Safari at 5 or 6? Would they let you on if you rolled up at 6:50?
