Animal Kingdom Night Show

I found it interesting that I was able to book a Safari fastpass at 6-7 pm with a 7pm park close for this May. I thought they stopped the Safari at 5 or 6? Would they let you on if you rolled up at 6:50?
Yes. They do have later closings some times of the year.

ETA - I have never inquired. I don't know if all the animals are still out during the later tours or not. Would be interesting to find out if they start putting some of the animals away. The entire process must take them a long time (I've heard but do not remember the numbers given)

From what I remember hearing on the Backstage Safari and Breakfast Safari, the animals are not required to return to their housing areas every day. They are basically able to return whenever they want. Also, each animal has it's own sound that they are trained to return to their housing area when they hear it. The keepers don't call them back every day but if they haven't seen a specific animal in a day or 2 they will call for it to make sure it is doing alright. So, theoretically, there are animals out on the savannahs of KS 24/7.

Disney could and probably would add perpetual moonlight like they have at AKL, if they don't already have it, around the safari so that animals could be seen when it's dark out.

We just booked a trip for March 12 - 16th 2016. I hope we get to get to see the new show!
I believe you are about a year too early for the nighttime entertainment expected with the Pandora addition.

That is what they are doing for the safari as well as adding animals such as hyenas that are more active at night.

Can't wait for Rivers of Light and especially Avatar land!! Saw cranes up over where avatar will be and tried to sneak a look at the river construction but not much to see as of yet.

If I had to guess, I would assume this show wouldn't include fireworks due to the proximity to all of the animals - but I could be wrong.
I would think the animals would freak out ! That's all they need is animals escaping scared to death lol. Could you imagine elephants running around AK :rotfl:
Do you think they will have anything added at night in August? They do have the park staying open until 7:00 some nights and 5:00 other nights.

Oh No! Really? I thought it was expected for Spring 2016.. Is it Spring 2017?

It's not confirmed by Disney..but reports have the nighttime show opening March 2016.

The Avatar expansion is 2017

I really dont understand that when we are going the AK is closing at 7:00 one day, 6:00 another, and 5:00 on another day.

I really hope its like WOC at at DLR. I've only traveled out there once but it is one of our favorite nighttime shows.

I am also thinking it might be similar to WoC which would be great as it really is an incredible show.

Thank you for clarifying! I'm definitely excited for Avatar land, but don't mind waiting for another trip, really hope Rivers of Light will be ready though! :D

This will be AWESOME.

Animal Kingdom NEEDS this -and with Avatar Land it's going to be an incredible park.

I can see I will be continuing to book trips for years to come!

This may have one unintended side effect. The mornings may be slower at first, with folks opting to sleep in and have a late start, to stay for the night entertainment, since they'll no longer want to make it an early day. I guess our plan will probably be to start early, leave for a break and then return at night. Though due to the remoteness of the park that will be tougher to do. May make a long TH lunch reservation a favorite break.

or.... make it a two day park. RD one day, and leave after lunch, and on a day when you want to sleep in, hit AK for a late lunch or early dinner, and spend the rest of the evening there. We do this with the other parks, so it will be a treat to plan a few days in AK.

Does anyone know if the parade will be coming back? I loved that parade!

The lights on the leaves of the tree of life are absolutely stunning.

Got to see them at Harambe Nights last year. I can't wait to see everything put together!

All indications point to no fireworks and it will involve music and water.

This was posted May of last year on the Disney Blog

“Rivers of Light” promises to be an innovative show unlike anything ever seen in Disney Parks, combining live music, floating lanterns, water screens and swirling animal imagery. The show will magically come to life on the broad, natural stage of the Discovery River, between Discovery Island and Expedition Everest, delighting our guests and truly capping off a full day of adventures at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

We look forward to sharing more details on the Disney Parks Blog in the future – about “Rivers of Light” and other new entertainment experiences coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

That image looks like something I herd Jim Hill talk about once. At one point they worked on a show about Noah's ark for the lagoon in front of the yacht and beach club and all the music and the story was apparently done with Andrew Loyd Weber, it got scrapped pretty much after he had finished most of the works. I wonder if they might use some of that stuff for this.
