My family and I are going to AKL (Savannah room) from May 28 through June 1. Any tips or suggestions or great ideas about the AKL? We are going to be there with a lot of family (14 of us total). WE'RE SO EXCITED!

Do NOT miss the storytelling outside at the fire pit.

Also...I forgot to ask earlier...which savannah is best?

Our family - 21 of us - are heading to AKL next week. I know you're excited just as we are. There are so many things to do at AKL - tours, hidden mickey hunts, animal viewing (even at night!), and a beautiful pool and gift shop.

Tons of stuff for kids to do: flamingo feedings, junior researcher, animal tracking, music of the savanna, animal games, pool games, arts and crafts with the lifeguards, cookie decorating, medallion rubbing (on the medallions on the lobby floor), sand torytelling by the firepit.

I know you'll have a blast. We can hardly wait!

Oh thank you. I'm going to print that out so my DD's (10 & will be 14) can do some with their cousin. Going to have to remember binoculars!!!

that need a break mid-day from the parks, be sure to sign them up for the cookie decorating at BOMA. Our girls had a blast with this and it is free for guests of the AKL.

The AKL is great and we all will have a great time!

Enjoy!

We like Arusha savannah - the center one with the viewing rock, the tree on it, story firepit, and the glass side of the lobby.

Do you know if you can call in a request for a certain savannah after your reservations are booked?

My best advice is to check out the different Savannah's before you check in. There are plenty of viewing areas plus go out onto the stairway exits. Each Savannah has different animals with different views. I ended up changing rooms 4 times before I found one that I liked!!! HAVE FUN!!! :earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl:

One night we had about 90 minutes to kill before our meal reservation at Boma. We got the list of hidden Mickey's from the front desk, split up into two teams, and had a race to find as many as we could in an hour. Both of my girls enjoyed this. You have a big group, and could probably have several teams competing.

That's a wonderful idea! Thank you. My children (10 and will be 14) are already looking forward to finding hidden Mickey's. The front desk has a list just for the lodge or for the whole park?

Where can I find info on the different savannah's? I had no idea there were diferent ones.

Also, can anyone give me an idea of what the Annual pass rates are generally like for AKL savannah view rooms? Thanks. We're looking at September and just want to compare to the rate that the Swan is listing.

Thanks,
Annette

We were in the upper corner of the Sunset Savanah. It was dissapointing. We kept running over to the big one (don't remember what it was called.) When you check in, see if you can get the big one.

Definetly do the hidden mickey "safari" :)

they also offer kitchen tours...I think they start around 3:45? you get to tour Boma and Jiko I believe.

My daughter is having a difficult time deciding which savannah she wants to overlook. She LOVES animals and this has been a dream of hers for years. Another family member made the reservations for us, so I'm waiting on details on that too. Will Disney let us know what room we have when we receive our reservation information?

We will be at AKL May 30-June 4. Maybe we will see you around. I have a 12 year old DS and our twins will be 10 (boy/girl) when we go. According to the "who's going in May" list we are the only one's that will be at the resort then so we should have good run of the place :rotfl:

LOL ... too funny! We will be the ones bouncing with excitement!

They won't tell you your room number on your reservation. We checked in about noon and they said my room was ready. Unfortunately when I got to it I hated it. What I now realize is that if you check in before 4 you are getting the rooms that no one wanted, that's why they are ready. If you tell them you are willing to wait in order to get a certain savannah or room then chances are they will let you. This happened to us once again when we checked in early at All-Star Music,we got the furthest room from the front! Don't hurry and be knowledgeable!!! Have a great time!!!! :earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl:
