Animal Kingdom Lodge

OK, we are leaving on our trip on Saturday, we originally had All Star Movies booked for the full week, but I upgraded to the Animal Kingdom Lodge for the second half of the week. At this point the wife and kids dont know and it is going to be a surprise to them when we get down there.

I got a good deal on the hotel, but could still only afford a standard room. I would really love to treat them to a Savanha room but lack the funds at this point. I have heard that many people get upgraded at this hotel. Is there any suggestions that you could give me to increase the possibility of getting upgraded?

Thanks in advance. This request seems trivial right now, knowing that there are so many people that just got their homes destroyed......

Hmm... the two times I was upgraded to a savanah view I never asked the CM checking me in. The first time the CM offered to upgrade me for an extra $60/night. I turned her down and said it was too expensive. She thought for a moment and then just did it for free Last December, the CM just upgraded our room and told us about it when he was explaining where our room was.

If you're not upgraded, don't worry about it There are a lot of places around the resort to look at the animals. Even if you have a savanah view, it's not guaranteed that the animals will be right outside your room.

i agree with the last poster about the views. i loved my savannah view room but would only spring for the extra cost if i was going to spend a lot of time at the resort. i am planning another upcoming trip and though i loved the giraffes outside of our room, i will be in the parks a lot more and would rather spend the extra money there. there are so many view spots at the resort. you guys will love it!

Alas, when I received my free upgrade at AKL, I was only upgraded from standard to pool view. I loved having a pool view room, however, because it allowed me to sit on the balcony and watch DH and DS swimming while DS#2 napped in the room.

When we received our upgrade we did not ask, but were just informed that we had been upgraded to pool view. I agree with the previous posters, though. The resort is so beautiful, and allows for so many animal-viewing opportunities that I wouldn't worry about which view you get.

Don't forget to go out at night and view the animals with the night vision goggles!

I'd just ask nicely if any upgrades were available. Please don't be diappointed if you are told no, or they want to charge you, as the others have pointed out, there are plenty of places to see the animals from.
