I'm thinking about taking a drive over to eat at Animal Kingdom Lodge on our trip (was hoping to stay for a night or two until I saw the 'Peak' prices  )

Can anyone advise on where is the best place to eat (myself, DH and DD (7)and do we need to call to make reservations?
I was thinking about maybe the Boma breakfast buffet but not certain whether I'll be able to get us all over there before it ends at 11am

Thanks.
:grouphug:

That sounds good :thumbsup2

I hadn't noticed the Boma dinner buffet menu :sunny:

Boma's is excellent, either dinner or brekkie ( I prefer brekkie) and I'd like to give Jiko a try.. it looks lovely through the doorway, but i don't really see it as kiddie-friendly as Boma.

Mike :)

All AKL dining is very good - we liked the food at the Mara as well - their counter service.
Jiko is a really good restaurant and Boma must have the best buffet in WDW!
How about a day at AK followed by an early dinner at Boma?

I posted this question on the Disney Restaurant board too and someone suggested the Mara counter service :thumbsup2

Whilst breakfast at Boma looks great I have serious doubts about whether we'll be organised enough to do it so I think we'll plan on Mara for an early lunch and take the rest of the day from there :sunny:

Id recommend Boma great food & cos it's a buffet it's ideal for kids. They can choose something different & leave it if they don't like it. & eat loads of stuff! they do like.

Great surroundings fantastic to see the animals.

We enjoyed Boma but I feel it is a little over-rated: I think the breakfast buffet is the best offering. Jiko is excellent, however there are definitely better WDW signature restaurants (in my opinion).

You can get the Zebra Domes for dessert at the Mara - give them a try - this is the dessert everyone raves about at Boma :flower1:

We enjoyed dinner at Bomas. With two fussy eaters a buffet is always a good idea - and they have kids choices available (with chips and chicken strips) which our two filled up on after trying some of the more unusual offerings. The puddings were delicious, but I'm sure not at all authentic African. However we didn't feel it lived up to the reviews we'd read.

A reservation would be a good idea. Also we needed photo ID to drive our car into the car park - luckily I had my driving license with me!

Hi Alison,

We have eaten at Boma, Jiko and The Mara.

Boma was fantastic! The variety and sheer tastiness of the food was excellent :thumbsup2 and my DDs really liked it too. Definitely make a reservation though, even with a ressie we had to wait a while to be seated. Mind you if, you have to wait, you can always enjoy a drink in the very pleasant Victoria Falls bar (which looks out over Boma).

Jiko - food was top notch and had been brilliantly prepared and presented. We had awful service here but I am sure we were just unlucky and I would go back. It is definitely more formal than Boma but there were a number of children there so don;t let this put you off if DD (and you) fancy it.

The Mara - Pleasant counter service. The choice was fine, quite similar to the other food court areas at some of the other WDW resorts - it's fine for a snack or even something a bit more substantial :)

Libby makes an excellent point about reservations and ID though :)

I have to say that the Boma breakfst is the one that appeals to me the most
Maybe we could plan to do it on the first morning - when we all wake up at 5am.............. :teeth:
