Animal Kingdom in the Cold?

Switched our flight from Saturday am to late Friday pm to try to beat the snow that may or may not clobber NY. Now discovering that Saturday, which was supposed to be our Animal Kingdom day, has a high of 48 degrees.

Anyone have experience seeing animals on those days? I've read some people that say animals are more active trying to stay warm but some that say they all stay in their indoor enclosures and the safari doesn't run?

Trying to think of what our next best option would be...

I had a Facebook memory just the other day from a very cold day at AK a few years ago. We rode the safari, but my recollection of that day is that few animals were out. I don't remember if Kali River Rapids was running that day, but it would have been way too cold to want to get that wet. And Expedition Everest wasn't much fun in the cold either. Overall, I would say for me, AK is the park I would least want to be at on a cold park day.

Epcot is my least favorite in the cold. There is little to no shelter while walking around WS, and forget about your food from the booths staying warm enough to eat.

It is going to be brutal Saturday once the sun goes down, no matter which park you pick. Bring gloves and a hat for sure, and wear your warmest coat. A scarf would not go to waste either. I have been in the parks under these conditions and it can be miserable if you don’t prepare. I have seen people wearing shorts and tees buying beach towels to wrap up in because they didn’t plan ahead.

Stay warm everyone!

Add the humidity to the equation and it’s that much worse. I’m from the Midwest and no stranger to cold weather but several years ago we went in December with temps in the 30s and 40s. That was a new kind of cold. I forgot to mention the 20 mph winds.:scared:

I‘ll be in Tampa over the weekend with the same forecast.

We visited AK when the temperature was in the 40s, and what you’ve heard is correct. Very few animals out on the safari, and the ones who were, wanted to be inside. That’s how we found out where the entrance to the giraffe house is, because all the giraffes were clustered around it!

It was in the high 30s Monday morning, and there were plenty of animals moving around. The cheetahs were even active.

I just did it this past Sunday when it was in the 40's and oh man. Can't tell you much about the animals but man were there PEOPLE. After only moderately crowded days at DHS, Epcot, and MK, I found it so surprising that the worst we saw was a cold day at DAK.

It may also be the fact that there's so little to do in the park right now that it FEELS the most crowded (with Everest closed, too cold for Kali, and few attractions anyway). But it did feel nice not to sweat through that park for a change.
