Hi

We've never been to Animal Kingdom before and just wondered if anyone could tell us what type of things there is to do, whats there and if you think it's any good.

Thanks

We just got back this past weekend from Disneyworld. And to be honest with you Animal Kingdom was my favorite, besides MAgic Kingdom of course. Anyway, My kids got to see more characters there then anywhere else. They loved the safari ride and the River rapids ride as well. We also saw the Lion King show and that was fabulous. Unfortunately we did not get to stay for the parade because little ones were getting tired. But overall I really enjoyed animal Kingdom!!

My favorites at AK. Lion Kind show it is so good, Tough to be a bug & the flights of Wonder bird show.

Yeah, it's really cool.

They have a great section for kids.
They also have Dinosaur (a great ride), the rapids, a safari, and great shows.

AK is my #4 WDW park, but there is much worthwhile there. If you love animals, be sure to allow some time for the walk-throughs of the animals.
The safari is terrific, It's Tough To Be A Bug is fun, the lion king show is great.

One tip, AK is known as the hottest of the parks, so if you can go early in the morning before it gets too hot, that would be a great plan. :earsboy:

Take time to see the animals and walk around the tree of life.

The must do rides are Kali River Rapid Ride and the Safari.
Dinosaur might be too intense for some children and loud noise sensitive adults.
Tough to be a Bug is too scary for some children.(Sometimes Children are hauled out of there by the arm load).

If you go to Camp Mickey/Minnie you get autographs the easiest when the Lion King show is going on.

See the Lion King Show(some say you have to show up 30 minutes ahead of time).
Tarzan Rocks is okay but if you are running short on time you could easily skip it.

The parade is okay but it is shown about 4:00(that is when it was shown last year).

The best restaurant here is Tusker House. It is on the dining plan as a CS. You get alot of food for very little money(just in case your paying out of Pocket).

Don't rush through the park! It is hot and can get crowded in some sections. The people who enjoy it the most are the ones who casually stroll through the park and enjoy all the little things.

Conservation Station,in my opinion,is boring! Rafikki sometimes shows up there so it might be worth a quick trip.

Although I love Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom is my favorite park!

Kilimanjaro Safari is great, and I love walking the Maharajah Jungle Trek and the Pangani Exploration Trail. I agree with the person who said you should take your time going through here--there's a lot to see! Tarzan Rocks and the Lion King show are both must-sees!

Restaurantosaurus is a good place to eat (not just for Donald's Breakfast, but lunch too). If you stay a full day, make sure to see the parade! It is terrific!

Can you tell that I'd live in the Animal Kingdom if I could??? :teeth:

Do not miss Festival of the Lion King show. It if great! Also, the parade, Mickey's Jammin Jungle Parade is good, but it is at 4:00 and we are usually gone by then. The ride Dinosaur is one of my favorites, along with It's Tough To Be a Bug, although that is kind of scary for younger children. The safari is best first thing in the morning, or late afternoon. AK is one of our favorites, although it does get very hot there.

The Safari is the best ride. My tip is to arrive at the park at opening, and head straight for the Safari. We did this, and we walked right onto the ride. By the time we exited, there was a 30 minute wait.

The Kali river rapids are great too, but be prepared to get wet.

It's Tough to be a bug is awesome.

Dinosaur was only so-so for me. It's just alot of dark spaces and a jerking vehicle.

The Primeval Whirl (sp?) in Dinoland was one of my 7 year olds favorite rides on our last trip!

We LOVE AK......

Make sure to see Tarzan Rocks! It is closing in Jan 2006, so if you don't get back before that it is your only chance to see it....

It is the one park that we go to EVERY weekend no matter what!

AK is a great park. As others have said, get there early and to get the most out of your day, head to the safari first...either ride immediately or get a fast pass (we didn't need FP when there last month, but some other trips we did)...sometimes we get a FP before getting on the ride, do the ride and then do it again with the FP...it's always different, since the animals are obviously moving around. You should also ride the train to the back of the park to see some more of the animals and walk some of the trails. Pick up a show guide as you enter and check out the times for the shows. IMO, Lion King is not to be missed...awesome...we have found that unless it's a very very busy day, getting there 15 minutes before show time is plenty early. We also LOVE Tarzan Rocks and if you have pre-teens/teens, don't miss it....great music, skaters, dancers, lots of fun. I don't care to much for Flight of Wonder, but I would still see it once....three shows are hard to fit in one day. During our visit in June, they weren't even using FP for It's Tough to be a Bug, but you will want to do that, too (unless you have small children afraid of loud noises...it's 3-D show). Dinoland has the playground for little kids, as well as rides like Primevil Whirl (FP ride, if needed) and a ride much like Dumbo but with Dinosaur cars instead (can't think of the name), as well as carnival games. Dinosaur is a simulator type ride....I like it but it is dark and loud....again FP if you want to use that system.
If your schedule allows, try to see the Mickey's Jammin Jungle Parade....so cute....and fun music.
I would ride Kali last (or actually, I wouldn't ride Kali...I don't like getting wet on rides) because you will be SOAKED!!!...My DH and DS really like it.
Don't forget to take time to walk the trails and look at the animals. THere are so many that it's easy to miss them.
My family can easily spend the day....we didn't this past trip, only there about 5 hours, but we skipped Kali and the Parade this time.
I hope you have a great time.

What time are the Lion King Shows? What time is the first one? How many do they have all day?

Didn't keep my show schedule but they vary slightly by day. The first one is usually at 9:30/9:45....usually as we are "rushing" to Safari, a CM is inviting you to go to the first show, "no line, no waiting" etc....so I know it's relatively early. I would guess they do 5 or 6 a day, but that's a guess. Not as many Tarzan Rocks offerings...Last trip, we did the safari ride, then Lion King (maybe a 10:15/10:30 show), then ate at Pizzafari and went to Tarzan for the 12:30 (I think it was) show. We were early for that one, but they were already seating people, so we sat and waited. Then we went to Bug, Dinosaur and were ready to leave at 2 (we had a CM in our party who needed to be at work in MK before 3).
