Considering staying at the Animal Kingdom Villas. Does anyone have advice for me. I looks like you could be walking a long way from your room, if your on one of the ends, to the pool, dining, etc.

Please tell me it's not as bad as it looks? Should I request a room close to the middle?

Also is it a long walk from the Villas to the main Jamb House.

I'm thinking as I type this I should request DVC in Jambo House. Please Help.

Yes, the rooms can be quite far from the lobby, pool, etc. Kidani is probably a 10 minute walk away from Jambo House. You can also take the buses between the 2 locations. Kidani has a terrific water splash zone at the pool, which our kids love. On the flipside, Jambo has a much larger gift shop, plus counter service. The only counter service at Kidani is poolside, and very limited menu.

When you reservation at AKV, you have to pick between Jambo House and Kidani Village at the time the reservation is made. There are 2 categories of rooms that are only available in Jambo House: Values & Concierge Level. Standard View & Savanna View are available in both buildings.

If you request a room close to the lobby (or pool) in Kidani you're pretty much close to everything there (which includes Sanaa for TS but no CS). And as Kirsten said, you can take a bus to Jambo if you want.

Honestly, Jambo is also huge, though if you request close to the lobby/pool, again you won't have that much of a walk.

They're large for buildings, but to put it in perspective, nowhere near as large as any of the parks you might go to. Great atmosphere---different than the other resorts. Not everyone likes them, but we do and own points there.

There are multiple ways to get between Jambo House & Kidani Village:
  • Bell Services: runs a shuttle between the main entrance of both buildings.
  • Disney Transportation (order based on destination of bus when leaving AKL/AKV):
    • Theme Parks: Kidani Village > Jambo House > Theme Park
    • Disney Springs: Jambo House > Kidani Village > Disney Springs
  • Walk: 10 - 15 minutes between the main entrance of both buildings
  • Drive (if you have your own vehicle).

It was a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG walk from our room at Kidani (near the end of the hall). So much so that we have decided never to stay there again. Jambo for us!

I assume you mean Kidani from your post but the villas are also in the Jambo building on the fifth, and for club level, sixth floors. The u-shaped Jambo building itself has long walks from the end rooms to the lobby, longer than the walks can be at BWV from lobby to last standard view rooms. The distance is not the best but it is not completely awful.

However, there is Kidani, which is a different story. Kidani has two wings, north (the one the pool is on), and south (the one that runs toward the front of Jambo and has the bus stop). The south wing is a little shorter than the north wing. The tip to tip internal walk is about 2/3 mile, lobby to end room on north wing is just over 1/3 mile. What does it compare to? Picture yourself walking over from Future World at Epcot to the base of the World Showcase. Now turn left and walk to Germany which is a little more than 1/3 mile away. You can actually take a boat to do that at Epcot. Kidani has no boat, but many who get those end rooms have rental cars and they actually drive to the lobby when they need to go to the store or front desk. In fact, that is Kidani's saving grace, an ideal under-building parking lot that runs almost throughout the entire building, with three elevators along each wing so that no matter where your room is you can always park fairly close to it.

As to distance from Kidani to Jambo, it again depends on where your room is. Front door to front door is about 1/2 mile; end room on Kidani north wing to Jambo front door is about 5/6 mile; from Zazu elevator, the last one on the south wing at Kidani, to Jambo is about 1/4 mile. You can take the bus -- park buses usually stop at Kidani first then Jambo, while Disney Springs bus goes Jambo to Kidani. There is also a shuttle that runs between the buildings that you just need to request at the front entrance.

Standard view at Kidani provides some protection from the longest walks simply because on the south wing the standards are only in the first four building units from the lobby. On the north wing, they are in the first three units from the lobby, and part of the fourth and the sixth building units which have standards converted from savanna view rooms. The ones in the sixth have very long walks but still about 200 yards short of the end rooms. Requests for either savanna or standard view that can make the walks to amenties bearable are "near the pool" or "near the Rafiki elevator" which will get you a room on the north wing (down the Rafiki elevator gives you the shortest possible walk from building to a gate to the pool area). Request "near transportation," "near Community Hall," or "near the Timon elevator" (down that elevator to second floor gives short walk to the door that is closest to the bus stop), all of which would put you on south wing with reasonable walks to amenities.

Sorry to hijack. Hope it's okay. I have a similar question and you seem to have a wealth of knowledge. I'm staying at Kidani in May and can now check in online and put in a room request. I have no idea what to request. I am traveling with teenagers and will have a car so I am thinking close to an elevator and close to the pool. I don't know Kidani well enough to know what area to request to get those. We are staying in standard 1 bedroom. Any thoughts?

Requests are best made through Member Services (if you are a renter then through the DVC owner who goes through MS) and not via the page for such in the online check-in. Those online requests were developed for cash guests from Disney and not for DVC members and some of them are even ridiculous for cash members. For example, one of the online requests is to be near an elevator. But there are three different elevators along each wing and a "near elevator" request without naming which elevator amounts to no request at all because it can be met by placing you anywhere in the building.

If you are going to do it online and near pool is offerred then make that request.Note if allowed up to two requests do not pick near pool and near transportation becaus eit is impossible to have both met since the pool is on the north wing and the bus station is on the south wing. a "near pool" request through member services would also work, if met. You could request close to the Rafiki elevator, the one that would be closest to any "near pool" request because it is the one that provides the shortest possible walk to a gate to the pool.

Note if you do not mind very long walks to the lobby and bus stop (but not overly long to pool), and want a standard view room that has a savanna view, then request to be near the Pumba elevator or near the standard view grand villas (those amount to the same request). That would place you overlooking the Pembe Savanna in the sixth building unit from the lobby on the north wing where there are standard roms converted from savanna because the view was not that great (but still OK -- the main issue is that the outer perimeter fence to the savanna comes somewhat close to the building in that area and thus animals tend to pass through but not stop there).

Thanks for the info. I am a member and not a renter so I will call member services and put in a request. I think I will take your suggestion and ask to be near pumba elevators. The north side is the pool side so that's works and since we have a standard room booked, any chance at seeing animals from our room is a great bonus but if we don't get one of the converted rooms we will still just be glad to be there! Thanks again for the info.

Last time we stayed at Kidani we were on the 5th floor which gave us a great view of the savannah. The walk to get anywhere was horrible. We were on the far end of the resort. I think that they had maybe 1-2 rooms after ours at most. The pool was one the far side of the resort for us so the walked seemed to take forever late at night after we had a few drinks by the pool. The buses were about half way between us and the pool. If I was to stay there again I would as for the same floor but something closer the lobby area.

It was a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG walk from our room at Kidani (near the end of the hall). So much so that we have decided never to stay there again. Jambo for us!

For reasons I won't go into here, I was still signing documents on the sale of my house when I stayed there. The walk to the front desk is very long, I had to go multiple times to sign and fax stuff. After the 2nd trip, my brother ended up driving me to the front desk. We ended up not using our refillable mugs because it wasn't worth the walk. We just bought coffee and filters. Seriously, ask for close to the lobby. The hallways at BWV aren't nearly as long as Kidani.

Great resort though, fabulous animal viewing from our huge balcony. Just that walk...

Well the buildings were designed to maximize the savanna view rooms so having long halls had to happen. :-)

:earsboy: Bill

We never found the walk all that long. We request the Kidani bead closer to Jambo near the elevator I think it is the Timon one as then it is a really short walk to Jambo. Our room at kidani was probably closer to Jambo reception than kidani reception great for dining etc.

We stayed near the far end of Kidani and while it was a long walk (loooong), my kids actually loved it. My 1yo refused to sit in the stroller most times. He ran from window to window "mooing" at the animals (sorry, but I don't know what sound an okapi makes, so we let him moo ;) ). It took forever to get anywhere, and I was 7 months pregnant to boot, but it made my kids so happy that it was worth it.

Jumping in with a related question - we are looking at doing a Savannah view in Jambo House at AKV. Any suggestions on room requests? We are going in December so not sure close to the pool matters as much as closer to buses.
