Animal Acclimation Affects New Sunset Savanna View

Just found this on the DVC Member site:

As the development of Kidani Village continues at Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas, crews are completing the new savanna and acclimating the animals to their new habitat. To accommodate this important, exciting process, the Resort will not be placing animals on the Sunset Savanna until April 15, 2009. Members and Guests who reserve a Sunset Savanna View room before that date will be advised of this process, and confirmations for those bookings will include a notation to that effect. Approximately 30 days prior to Member arrival, the Resort will determine, based on occupancy and booking date order, which Members will be assigned to a Sunset Savanna View room. Member Services will notify affected Members, who will receive a Vacation Point credit after their stay reflecting the difference between a Sunset Savanna View and Standard View. Please note that animals on the other savannas will still be visible from multiple public locations at the Resort.

Interesting info. Luckily we won't be staying at AKV during that time period, but its good news that there will be point compensation for those affected.

WOW!! Good info! However, this puts me between a rock and a hard place. We plan to go next Easter break (prior to 4/15) and I want to stay in concierges, overlooking the sunset savanna, to go on the sunrise safari BUT there will be no point adjustment since you are not guarenteed a savannah view. Is it worth it???

Wow! I have some savannah views booked this year. Getting the Sunset Savannah would be one lottery I don't want to win. Shucks, I'm seriously considering changing resorts. Darn.

The way that I read the originial post is that this will only affect those that are booked into the finished Kidani Village savanna view rooms. The AKL has totally different savannas and that is where the concierge rooms are.

So the way you're reading it, Kidani Village Sunset Savanna will not have animals during that time, but Jambo House Sunset Savanna, (including the AKV concierge rooms), will have animals?

For purely selfish reasons, I hope that's the case! But I'm not sure about that. Isn't the Sunset Savanna going to be one entity -- connected? If they don't have animals on the Sunset Savanna, I would think that would affect both Kidani and Jambo rooms.

I'm not an AKV expert, though, so hopefully those with more knowledge will weigh in.

I was just looking at LisaS' map and I forgot that the one side of the concierge rooms were overlooking the Sunset Savanna (I thought it was another savanna). That stinks because now we will be more likely to get a pool view and this was our 10 year Anniversary trip. Not that it was guaranteed we would have gotten a savanna view, but we were still hoping. Bummer!

Although, maybe since they are there now on the Sunset with barriers up Disney will just not be opening the savanna extension.

I'm curious to see how this plays out. I have a reservation for AKV concierge this December, which I made day by day at the 11 month mark. While a savannah view wasn't a guarantee to begin with, I would MUCH rather have a pool view than look at an empty savannah. Hmmmm, I wonder if this affects Kidani only or Jambo House too.

Argh!!!! I too have CL booked. I will be there in May and if I end up with a savannah view room, I will not be happy with an empty savannah.

Also, I am taking my niece and nephew in November and I will be really annoyed if our savanna view room doesn't have any animals.

I wouldn't get my hopes up on that one. I think it means Jambo house and Kidani village.

Also the statement says crews are completing the new savanna and acclimating the animals to their new habitat. The animals that are currently on the Sunset are acclimated to their habitat. When the extension opens it's just more land for them to roam.

I guess it's just going to take one of us calling tom'w and finding out what the deal is. Or Wilderness Dad if you have been in contact with the folks in concierge ask them for us.....Please?!

I'm just going to go with the flow. AKV is new. There will be growing pains. I am in it for the long haul like we all are. No biggie.

We'll be doing both Safaris and the Discovery Wildlife Excursion this coming May. That's why we're going concierge.

I read the news as meaning that there will be no animals out on the Sunset Savanna. Why would they be crediting points back to the standard view level if they had the existing animals out?

Is this effective immediately? has anyone been there very recently? I have a value studio reserved for December 2008. I'll be interested to see how DVC handles this.
