What is the appropriate amount to spend or give? Do you give both toys and an outfit?

I think it depends on which organization you go through. The one at my church is very specific about which items to buy and how much to spend. I think because siblings may be different angels and they want them to get comparable gifts.

Most of the angel trees around us have a gift request on them and an age. We let the kids pick out a child their own age and we usually get something for elderly people-usually they have things like hats and gloves on theirs. We usually stick a gift card to the grocery store in there too.

Do you pick out both toys and clothes or just one? About how much do you spend if you don't mind me asking.

We usually pick two kids off the Angel Tree. Last year we got a 12yo girl and a 7yo boy. We found some jeans and a shirt for each, and some shoes on sale. We actually had enough leftover to buy a bat & ball for the little boy and some inexpensive jewlery for the girl.

We always get both clothes and toy/gadget. These kids need clothing but every kid loves something "fun".

The instructions from the salvation army here say to buy a complte outfit of clothes and a toy.

I've coordinated the Giving Tree (as we call it) at work for the past several years to benefit local foster kids. The agency we work with gives us both a clothing and 2 toy options for each child (ranging this year from 2 months to 17 years old). It's up to the tag taker as to whether they can provide all the items, a few or just one. The agency likes to gives options so the child has a greater chance of getting at least one thing they truly want/need.

As for amount to spend...having wrapped over 80 gifts 2 years in a row I can tell you in our case it really depended on how generous the tag taker was able to be. Some people I know for a fact spent $100 + on for example a beautiful winter coat, outfit and toy...others maybe $30-40 and some less. I'm sure many people shop sales with coupons, etc so even higher end items may have cost less than it seemed. I would say the average was $40-50 per child. Being a bargain hunter I know I can do really well with that much!

Bless you for participating in your local Angel Tree

Where can we find an Angel tree? Our school has asked for contributions but we do not have the option to sponsor a child. DDs both said they would like to take money from their own Christmas budgets to sponsor a child of their age (9 and 11). DD11 also asked to sponsor a toddler girl but I encouraged her to choose a teenager. Everyone has told me that the teenagers tend to receive less help.

Around here all the churches have something. If you don't belong to a church, stop by one in your area and ask if they have one. If they don't there is a good chance they will know who does.

I think I am making this so much harder than it is suppose to be. I love to give gifts I just always want them to be just right.

So far we for DD12 angle kid a girl age 12 we got an outfit at Areopostal and a CD player (My daughter picked out skinny jeans because that is what she likes but I am second guessing that because I hate them).

For my DD9 angle kid a girl age 7 we got roller blades- havent picked out an outfit yet.

My angle kid a girl age 4 we got Baby Alive and a V-tech learning labtop I still have to get an outfit

DHs angle kid is a boy age 9 He wants a remote control car and walkie talkies we haven't got them yet but will.

I think the clothes part is very challenging because I do not know what their favorit color is or if they have one the hate. I think I am letting it stress me out when I thought it would just be fun:rolleyes1 I just picture kids getting up Christmas morning and hating what they got.

OP-- we usually get an outfit and toy/fun thing on their list. As far as the outfit unless they give specific instructions I usually let DD pick out something. Don't stress yourself out on if the child likes this style or that style. It's something you will not know.

Just remember as long as whatever you give comes from the heart it's all good.

Make sure you include many batteries for the toys that need them. Include gift receipts for the clothing if you can.

My company is doing an angel tree this year and some of the tags say clothes while others say toys. Only 13 out of 113 say clothes. I got a 5 year old girl and 5 year old boy that both say toys so since they did not give clothes sizes I really can't get clothes. I would love to be able to do both.

you could do mittens, gloves, scarf, socks, bathrobe-things that don't have to fit exactly perfect. Those would probably be needed items as well.

DD11 and I picked an 11yo girl off the angel tree at the mall and her sizes are listed as 7/8. I'm so worried the clothes will be too small!

I wonder if it is 7/8 in juniors instead of kids. I picked a 12 year old size 5 I got junior size clothes for her. That is a hard one though but 7/8 for an 11 year old is awfully small.

I'll bet that's what it is... oh duh!!
