So I'm sure that everyone has heard of the "Andy's Coming" rumor. I haven't tried it but I watched videos and it didn't work. Fail! What is your opinion and has it ever worked?

I don't like it.

Well, from a creative standpoint, it sounds pretty neat.

But let's take a real life look at this:

I'm an actress, in the theatre department at my school. I have a lot of respect for my teacher/director. When she tells me to do something, I do it. I've dropped/fallen as I purosely try to or on command.

And it hurts if you don't do it right, or mess up. Sometimes it hurts if you do it right anyway, just by force of impact.

Now imagine being in a big body suit kind of costume while being forced to fall like that. Even if you don't mess up, dirty or damage your costume, that's going to hurt, especially with the weight.

It's no wonder they don't do it. I wouldn't.

Something tells me this was a stunt pulled off by somebody within Disney. The closest thing I'd imagine resulting from yelling that is them hiding behind a bush or something, but not falling on the ground. Sometimes, sticking to character is avoided when necessary.

I've heard that it has worked, but word got around so fast that it just happened too much to keep doing it.

I think they might have done it when it was first said. But if you imagine it as:

You go up to the character when it's your turn to meet them and yell, "Andy's coming!" The people behind you all watch and like the idea. After you leave, they do the same thing and so on.

I think it was just repeated too many times.

The whole thing was made up. They aren't supposed to do it. Maybe it happened once or twice but it can hurt the characters. So don't do it.

They're not allowed to do it because of how they could have a costume malfunction or hurt themselves, I heard the managers have told all the character performers not to do it.

If the characters ever did do it, they don't anymore. We were waiting for the train at Frontierland by where Jessie & Woody meet and heard 4 or 5 different people say it.

Okay, here's the truth behind "ANDY'S COMING":

It was only done for a special promotional meet and greet following the released of Toy Story 2 (or 3, I can't remember nowadays). It was for one day and only lasted a few hours- like I said, it was purely promotional. Which makes sense- if it was an ongoing thing for a period of time, there would be more photos/footage of it online, right? Anyway, The CM would prompt a random guest (especially if they were wearing Toy Story merch) to shout "Andy's coming!" and when the characters dropped, they were suggested to also lay down on the ground for the photo op. It was just a cute thing Disney did one time to celebrate the release of a new Toy Story movie.

Well, don't forget- the people hired by Disney to be in those suits on the day of the meet and greet were professionals. In fact, many of the costume characters are professionals in the field of body acting/physical humor and farce. So even though "Andy's Coming" doesn't even work, you still shouldn't worry about any of the Disney actors hurting themselves when they fall on command- they've had a LOT of training :-)
