Andy and Rae's 50th Birthday Celebration - 2005

This thread dropped to page 3?!!? Geez, you'd think no one is interested in this. :)

Maybe we need to start a cruise meets thread!

We will, once we have a confirmed date selected, just waiting for the Summer of '05 dates to be announced!!!

IS there any speculation where this ship might sail?

karebear1,

Yes there is lots of speculation, but we're a little short on read hard information. Many of us would like either a repositioning cruise through the Panama Canal, or a 7 day West Coast cruise. Because the cruise would have to stop at one foreign port, the thoughts are someplace on the Mexican coast.

I would really like California => Canada => Alaska or reverse, but that is probably way too much to hope to have.

One reason may be that the emails stopped coming advising that someone had posted to the thread. It's the "out of sight, out of mind" syndrome.

Definately not out of my mind. (however sometimes I wonder about that) Seriously, all my countdown timers are now set to say waiting for summer 2005. I did notice that I am not receiving those emails anymore?

By the way, I call a secret porthole room!

So- when you say "repositioning cruise" what exactly do you mean? It sounds like you'd catch the boat in Fl. and it would go to Ca? And- if it they did a west coast cruise- and took the route you're suggesting- then there would probably be lots of days at sea? As you can tell, I don't have any cruise experience, but I am interested in maybe switching our Jan '05 cruise to this one.... if it happens. My DH would love that. Now- please don't laugh at me, my geography is as bad as my cruise experience.... but do you think there'd be a possibility of going through the panama canal and maybe doing somekind of Mexico cruise?

That's what the "SPECULATION" is, the Magic would go through the Panama Canal and cruise out of California for a few months, then make it's return to Florida around the end of August.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh- I get it .... finally! My DH would LOVE that. He's an engineer- it would be a dream thing for him!

Will that be the name of our ship, "Disney Speculation"?
Not bad, Andy, not bad at all!

Yes, it is all speculation, but what a marketing tool. Disney knows that many cruisers WANT to go longer than 7 nights - that's why many book "back to back". Disney also knows that with the cost of airfare, many people on the West Coast never get to on the DCL.

And with Disneyland turning 50 in 2005, why not satisfy the people that:
(1) want to cruise longer;
(2) want to go through the Panama Canal (and how many ships actually go there???);
(3) want to cruise DCL but have done several Western and Eastern itineraries and want a change;
(4) are on the West Coast; and
(5) promote DCL and Disneyland's 50th!

Possibilities are endless and we aren't buying that "mid May to September 1" no itineraries or reservations line.

Yes, there is a thread of people that do not want to do this - but they have choices available other than that 14 week period of time during summer 2005!

Rae

I agree Rae. We live in Wisconsin and it does cost more to go to California than Florida, but we've been on two cruises (3 by 2005) out of Florida and been to WDW a number of times. I love DL, it was my first Disney park and is still my favorite (even with DCA). When I first realized that DL's 50th was the same year as DH's 50th, we decided we would go to DL rather than DCL that year. What a great opportunity to do both! I just hope everyone who really wants to go on a cruise from the West Coast is able to get ressies! I also hope DCL doesn't give me too many choices or I may have to book multiple West Coast cruises :p Don't tell DH ;)

I hope they don't make the announcements, but wait until DL announces plans to take ressies. Could happen if they want to have DL/DCL packages.

I'll be 50 next year, too. Can't think of a better way to celebrate. Count me in for 2 people.

ColleenD can we have the day and month of your birth to add to the list on page 1?

The more the merrier - for this "By Invitation Only" cruise!!!!! Not to start THAT over again, but my word, this is growing by leaps and bounds and not only for those who will be the 5-0 in 2005!!

Ohhh yes, twhipple - a DL/DCL package! I plan to get there early so I can go back t DL and see the changes since I was there in the 1970's!! But I want to be on the repositioning cruise just to see the Panama Canal first hand!!!!

Ohhh so many dreams for the Disney "Speculation"!!!!

Yeah, Andy wants to know if you are older than he is!!! Make it so!

Rae

Thanks Verandah Man. Not only am I the Turkey but also the youngest of the group. I wish DCL would post the dates and the itineraries so I can get approval from the boss - or should I leave her at home and just take our DS6. She is a teacher and works in a year round school. She is trying to switch tracks next year in anticipation of the cruise. Send a little pixie dust our way.
(BTW - rumors of an Alaska cruise or cruise up the coast sound nice as well - I think I would actually prefer this more in the summer than going South to Mexico where it will be getting a lot warmer.) - Mike

Oh yes, Alaska! I'd be up for that!!!

Andy, think you could use some more snow and ice??????

Rae

ANdy only wishes everyone was older than he so he's the young one in the goup!
