Any educational institution that does not consider a cruise to any foreign port a part of a good education should be reevaluated. There is so much that children learn, not only from the CM's on the ship, but in and around the Ports we visit. And the Panama Canal - what a marvel of engineering that was. The history of the area and the information a child can gain from just passing through it would be worth more than sitting in a classroom seeing a few pictures and reading a page or two about it!
Not to debate the value of homeschool vs public school, both are valuable and as long as the child learns, it's not an issue to me at all. But the opportunities that we as parents have to give our children the world! It just boggles my mind.
I was able to see one movie during the ages of NOT - 16, and that was "Miracle of the White Stallions". I actually was able to travel with my Aunt and Uncle from Sullivan County, New York to Montreal, Canada once when I was about 7 years old. That was it for vacations. So maybe I do spoil my son a lot, but if it adds to his ability grow then it's all worthwhile.
So we need to be pro child in this and if it's something we want to give our children, then the school must realize that the parent knows best.
Okay, off my soap box (for now!) by the way, I don't talk this much in person. Really!
