Does anyone know if Android Wear with wifi would sync while aboard the ship using the ships Wifi/Navigator app? I wonder if if carrying an Android wear around would be easier than the smartphone for my kid.
i have not tried, but this Google support page leads me to believe no. First, it claims that the watch goes out to the Internet to sync with the cloud rather than communicating with your phone over the local network. Then there is the following section of limitations:
Limitations
Not all watches have a Wi-Fi feature. Try using the directions below to connect to Wi-Fi. If you don’t see Wi-Fi settings under “Settings” on your watch, Wi-Fi is not available on your watch.
When your watch uses Wi-Fi, the “Open on phone” feature is disabled.
Your watch can’t connect to Wi-Fi networks that use captive portals, which are web pages you have to visit before connecting.
802.1x certificates are not supported in Android Wear at this time.
The third bullet is discouraging as the DCL Internet does have a captive portal. Now some people have reported that their devices have recieved some push notifications while connected to the ship WiFi but not connected to the Internet, so there is a chance, but I wouldn't count on it being reliable if it works at all.
