ok this is just getting silly!!!

Busses in the Upper grand are not running AGAIN!! The snow has stopped so what's up with that??? My oldest ds' is thrilled - my youngest that walks is going to have a fit!!

Sigh.... off to find jobs for one board 13yo ds to do today.

Our buses are canceled, schools open here in Mississauga. Doesn't matter to us our kids walk to school.

OP, can't your DS old find a different mode of transport to get to school?
Although with the buses canceled I'm sure there'll be a poor turn out.

Here's an image of the latest snowfall from my BBQ-O-meter

Here's a link to my BBQ-O-meter from snowfalls so far this winter.

Buses aren't running but the schools are open here in Brampton. DD wasn't happy about that. She would have been doing school work anyways. (mean mom here)

I have no other way to get ds' to school - I do home daycare and have too many kids here to be able to drive him.

Not too big of a deal but he sure is getting bored at home.... today he's going to do some school work and help me clean up the daycare!

We just came in from snow blowing again - we had to break the snow down off the banks b/c it was so much higher then the snowblower!!

Cancelled here too in Upper Canada District School Board. I need to have my students at school so I can finish testing and do report cards! I hope this is the last snow day this year.

My sister lives in the south-end of Guelph, Clair Rd & Gordon. She's had to drive her DD's to school yesterday & today.

This is the third day in a row for us! First day was a fog day and then snow days.

Does anyone want to ponder a guess as to what is going to happen regarding all the make up work? This is the 5th snow day for our board in the last two weeks. We live in a primarily rural area where most of the children are bussed. Althought the schools remain open during snow days, there are no academics done and only a handful of kids attend on snow days.

Has anyone ever heard of any school boards extending the school year and/or cancelling upcoming PA days etc. in order to make up the work that was missed due to the snow days? I hope not!!!!!!

For the last two days we have also had no snow plows (main highway only being plowed) due to a strike by city workers, so we truly are SNOWED IN!!!!

Have a great SNOW day everybody. We are going out to TRY :goodvibes and shovel and then to ski on our driveway!!!!!

We've had years with many busses cancelled days and they have never extended the school year on us. The school my youngest attends now still does their normal work day as most of the kids near that school are walkers. The ones that missed due to the snow just make up the work in class or at recess when they get back.
It's a bit different for my 13yo - he is bussed and I can't get him there but he's also in a grade 8 LD class so is working at his own pace anyway. It's a small class so they can get the work done pretty fast! his teacher will also email some of his work to me.

In our board they separate us into colours to make it easier as to who is cancelled - the 'pink' card has only been to school 2 or 3 times in the last 2 weeks!

Snow day in York region as well, though we didn't have one yesterday. I heard some of the districts that have had a lot of snowdays may have school on family day and the friday before march break. I am not sure if that is true though.

I am in Orillia and we have a snow day today too :thumbsup2 Not only are the buses not running, but all Simcoe County Board schools are completely closed!! I usually have to make my way to school when buses are cancelled, but today is a treat :goodvibes The girls and I are having a lovely relaxing day. We had over 40 cm of snow fall since last night :scared1: The main roads are being cleared, but they have to get the rest done.

When buses are cancelled, I don't send my daughters (JK and grade 1). They only get shuffled around to various rooms to make a full class. They aren't doing any work, so if dh is off they stay with him. If dh isn't off, they come to my school and spend the day in my room (they love this!).

As for making it up, I'm not sure if they actually will, but I don't think they could take the family day away as it is a Stat day. As for the Friday before March break, we don't have it anyways as our board was very concerned  that we would have three weeks of 4-day school weeks (with Easter so close), so they took it away this year. What they think we will be doing on the Friday before March break that is so important is beyond me?? We will just have sent reports home, so the term is done. Oh well ... hopefully we get it back next year :)

No busses running here in Belleville either. It hasn't snowed since about 9:30 this morning. My daughter in JK is sick anyway, so she would be here with me nonetheless, but this is getting SILLY!

No buses here either.

We have always sent the kids to school, even on snow days. My philosophy has always been that it's a good opportunity to get extra help from the teacher, etc.

Well, two snow days ago (that sounds funny) there was just my DD and one other girl in Grade 6. There were only 7 kids for both Grade-2 classes.

There was no real school work being done and the kids were being shuffled around.

Sooooo... against my better judgement, we now let the kids stay home. We give them some extra chores and school-type work, in addition to all that shovelling!!! :rolleyes1
