Would my 12yo son feel too old at Legoland?

My son is 11 and he would love to go back, but he loves Lego. I didn't feel too old at Legoland and I'm 39 LOL.

That's a tough one, since it really depends on the kid. There are some activities for older kids like the Mindstorm session (you have to sign up for those in advance I think). If he's still into Lego then he would enjoy mini-Land and the Lego Movie Experience. There a few rides that older kids might enjoy, but on the whole, they not thrill rides, so if he's really into rides then he may not enjoy it. The waterpark is fun for all ages though. We all had a blast there!

Regarding lines, we were just there last Saturday and Sunday, so it was the end of the summer. We did not feel like the park was too crowded. Since we stayed at the hotel we got in a little earlier so that helped. At 9am hotel guests can enter and do about 6 rides that are on the left side of the park. Do those first thing because the lines do move very slowly later in the day. Sunday morning, after we did the left side we went over to the right side where they dropped the rope at 10am. We went straight to the Lost Kingdom Adventure ride (sorta like Astroblasters), walked on and rode 3x in a row. We also walked onto the Dragon rollercoaster and DS7 did the jousting ride. The only long line we waited in was for the Skipper School. Saturday morning we did rides until 1pm, had lunch, took a break at the hotel then went to the water park for the rest of the day. We either walked on rides or had very little wait that day too. I say go in the mornings for the best chance at short lines then do the water park in the afternoon.

Definitely.

We took our 8 1/2 year old grandson to Legoland last week after a visit to DLR. Definitely not the same experience as Disney and I was amazed at how expensive park admission was. Very, very long waits at rides; the lines move at a snail's pace and the rides were rather lame and quite short, although my grandson really enjoyed the miniature golf course. The park is a bit run down as well. The staff were great though, very friendly.

My grandson enjoyed the park, but I wouldn't visit again.

I have a 10 day pass, which we will prob get 9 days use from. I'm thinking to slot a stay at Legoland Hotel in on a Sunday night since DL will probably be busy on Sunday's, then I can visit the outlets at Carlsbad on the way. How does everyone feel about Legoland in general I am not expecting DL quality but do the kids love it? When we get back to Anaheim we will still have 2 full days at DL.

9 days at DL seems like a lot. I think Legoland will be a nice change of pace for you. Weekday, not school holiday, the lines shouldn't be bad at all. I have a trip report covering the Legoland Hotel and a walk through of the park and water park. Maybe that will help you decide if your kids will like it.

Yes, it's not Disneyland, the rides don't feel as immersive to me and some of the Lego sculptures have dust on it. But my kids (3 and 6) love it. We went last year (2 days) and again this year (3 days), and they still ask to go back. I think DH and I are a little sick of it though.... LOL.

The gate price is VERY expensive, but there are often buy one get one, or buy one adult get one kid deals, which make it much more reasonable. Check out this thread:

That's a hard one. My son is an absolute Lego fan and he loved Legoland when he was younger. The last time we went he was 9 or 10 and he liked it, but said that he didn't need to go back. So, your oldest daughter is probably just at the age where she would still enjoy it if she is a real lego-lover. If she likes the thrill rides, then she might be a little disappointed as they don't have any. I agree with others that the aquarium is not worth it.

As a PP said, really depends on the kid. Our son went at 12 and was still very into it, but he is a lifelong Lego lover. He enjoyed the Mummy shooting ride, the small rollercoasters, and checking out everything in Miniland. He was OK with it not being Disneyland and being unique. We are taking our younger son back (he was 3 the first time we went and recalls little and couldn't ride everything. He is really excited.

All that being said, I think 5-10 is the perfect age -- big enough to ride everything and still interested, -- and up a couple years from that if they are interested and not "too cool" for it.
