Im new to this board a friend from make a wish told me to come here and start a profile. How does this disboutiquers thing work and who do i talk to I am new friendless and finding it hard to find my way around here. My 10 year old little girl just found out that she would receive a make a wish and her wish is disney. Any help would be appreciated

There is not "someone" to talk to as far as the Big Give. The Disboutiquers find the families to include based on several factors such as time and resources available.

"Referrals" are happening alot, which is causing us to have to say no to families (which we don't like to do). May I ask who did the referring? Was it someone actually from Make a Wish?

yes a family and a volunteer there sent me here. Im sure i will reveal alot in the coming posts but this trip is literally a dream come true for our family. We are just starting to get back on our feet from almost losing our home and being in a bankruptcy. All reason boyond our control. When my doctor referred us to MAW i cried tears of happiness and releif. The last three years have been a long and hard road for our family and this I hope will give us all hope and Mackenzies long awaited WISH we will all get to see Very nice to meet you BTW

Regarding the 'Big Give', you already got the answer from one of the sources. They are a wonderful group of volunteers without enough resources or time to provide magic for every family. So, they sort of 'sprinkle pixie dust' where they can. Like a lot of magical things, it's a surprise that may or may not happen.

Regarding the Wish trip itself, starting a pre-trip report and getting advice - there is a whole thread devoted to that. It is called the Wish Trippers and is close to the top of this board.
Start with the first page of the thread to get a lot of useful information (Post one especially), then head on to the last page and introduce yourself.
They are a great group and will help you feel at home.
You can also ask questions on this board, purist of that thread, but many of the people on Wish trips hang out on that thread.

Thank you for posting this Sue. I have spoken with the BIG Give leaders on this subject a great deal. The bottom line is we don't do referrals, and we can't accept private requests. If anyone "refers" you to the Big Gives it is not done with the permission of the BIG Givers.

That being said, we do the very best we can to include as many families as possible. We have made some amazing things happen. But please don't
ask" us. Let us "find" you. If you ask, it puts us in the position of possibly having to say no-and we hate that. But we have to say no.

I don't think anyone thinks badly of you - you were just following some information that someone else told you that turned out to be incorrect.

An honest mistake - and from that, there will be some clarifications made so that others don't make the same mistake.

Your question was answered on both boards. I answered your question on this board within 4 minutes of you asking it so I am not sure where you did not get an answer. Did you have another question that did not get answered?

Just to clarify and not to sound harsh, we understand that everyone wants to be included in the Big Gives. Sadly it is just not possible. We are volunteers (Mom's and a Dad), who donate our time, materials and even pay for the shipping. More often than not we don't even get a "thank you". Lately we have been getting more and more "requests" that we just can't honor. (We even had a parent who provided us with exactly what they wanted us to make for each member of their family).


I would like to ask who is doing the "referring" from MAW (if you could PM me that info that would be wonderful). We really don't want people getting the wrong idea about what we do. Sadly this is not the first time we have run into this and it always results in a family being disappointed and hurt feelings from our members. (Several ladies even quit/took breaks after the last issue). Less people sewing means less gives we can do

As stated, the Big Gives are a gift and not something to be expected, or asked for. We don't get funding from outside sources like MAW. We are not part of MAW or GKTW.

I hope your child's Wish trip is just as magical as I know it will be.
