So we were in SSR walking towards the main building when a couple (I'd say in their 50's) approaches us. They say, are you DVC members? We reply yes and they say that Disney has been lying to us for 3 years! At this point we are mentally rolling our eyes and ask how. Well apparently, according to them, Disney is taking our fingerprints and DNA and bone density when we put our fingers on the scanners to enter the park. My husband asks how he thinks they could take our bone density with a finger scanner? Because they're Disney and they can and they use the bone density to get our DNA so they can steal our identities!! :rolleyes2 DH asks why would they want to steal our identities. I guess the man was mad that DH was questioning him because he told us we were ridiculous and stormed away. Then his wife turns around and says, just you wait and see what Disney does with this!

If he has such an issue with what he thinks is going on, why are they even there? To gather information? :confused3 BTW, this is not a joke. This really happened to us. Can't make stuff like this up. It was definitely one of the more interesting parts of our trip. :)

Well, let's not forget that 10% of Americans believe the earth is flat. You also have the 'we never landed on the moon' types, the 9/11 truthers, and so on and so on and so on. Far too many humans are stupid, ignorant and easily lead. That's why so many groups are so succesful in manipulating them. I'm sure when they left you they put on their crystal amulets, donned their pyramid power hats and now sit happily waiting for the mother ship to take them away before 12-21-12 occurs.

Your tread title says it all! :rotfl2:

Do you think they were also DVC members or just randomly roaming property "enlightening" people?

Pretty sure they were DVC members too.

Why us? lol

Well if anyone else runs into them - when they ask if you're DVC members, say no and briskly walk away. Do not make eye contact! ;)

Awh, that's sad. Those people are probably ill. I had a client that used to go to a pay phone at 2am to leave my office messages because he thought that "they" were tapping his phone and taking personal information from him. He kept throwing away cell phones. I think some people truly think this stuff is real. It's very sad.

Disney is still in the learning stages, like it has been for over a decade, of trying to figure out how to get a finger scanner to work properly. Someone who would believe Disney's IT department is skilled enough to have a machine that steals your identity and DNA obviously has not followed the history of Disney and the computer age.

I'll be sure to ask the cast member at the next turnstile I go through if I should be drinking more milk.

I get a monthly report of my bone density and a full set of X-Rays from Disney, don't you? The co-pay is a bit steep but the quality is unmatched.

This is so funny !

By the way, Disney does not take a 'real' fingerprint, it is against the law.

This is the explanation I found:

Kim Prunty, spokeswoman for Walt Disney World: The new scanner, like the old finger geometry scanner, "takes an image, identifies a series of points, measures the distance between those points, and turns it into a numerical value." She added, "To call it a fingerprint is a little bit of a stretch."

Of course, she never mentionned about bone density :rotfl2:

Ah, mystery solved! Now I know who writes all those emails I get forwarded to me by other benighted souls . . . that the UN is taking over America, secret police are rounding up all the guns, flouride in the water is a communist plot . . .

Disney offers dental check ups, too. But only if you add the WaterPik Fun & More option to your tickets.

I told this to my husband after, that it wasn't even really a fingerprint and he was like who cares if they even take it? They take your fingerprints in elementary school so the police have them, my previous employers have them. Lots of people have them! I don't care if Disney has them!

With amount of info Disney has on me (given we financed our DVC purchase, park pictures, passwords, etc), they could easily steal my identity if they really wanted to :lmao:.

As for being crazy, I think this only applies to us SSR owners, since we had to be crazy or desperate to buy there :rotfl2: :rotfl:.

Besides, if Disney really wanted my DNA, I may actually give it to them. I think they could get a DNA sample from all guests if they actually tried. :confused3

You haven't heard? They're turning us all into animatrons, like in the Stepford Wives.

Since we are on the subject of the finger scanning thing - we just returned on Wed. 12/12/12. We were at OKW 7 nights. We bought our first PAPs and dh and I purposely used each other's passes when going through the turnstile. Out of 10 times we used it in the beginning - only twice the light was red and it did not work. I don't know what they are scanning or doing but it sure is not consistent.

Well I'm fairly positive I gave DVC My name, address, SS# and date of birth.:confused3

If we financed with them then you could add job history and income!

So if that isn't enough to steal my ID then I guess I better refuse the fingerprint scanner!:rotfl2:

In my now-legendary law enforcement career, I don't remember ever running into any law that outlawed taking fingerprints. There are laws against misusing fingerprints, but I don't think taking them is illegal. If it is, a whole lot of people are going to jail.

Kim Prunty, spokeswoman for Walt Disney World: The new scanner, like the old finger geometry scanner, "takes an image, identifies a series of points, measures the distance between those points, and turns it into a numerical value." She added, "To call it a fingerprint is a little bit of a stretch."
Which is precisely how modern law enforcement agencies take and process fingerprints. The image IS a fingerprint (actually a reverse image of a fingerprint), just like an ink print on a card would be.

The measurments collected are called "minutea" and they yield a numerical value which is unique to that fingerprint. Fingerprint computers can easily compare the numbers and produce a list of possible matches. But in order for an actual identification to be made, a human fingerprint examiner must make a visible comparison.

IF Disney actually collects those images and does anything with them, my guess is they would only look for a rough numerical match in their system. Personally, I doubt if they collect or compare anything. Until I actually hear about cases where someone was busted for using someone else's admission media, I suspect the whole finger-scanning thing is just a smoke-screen.

No offense, but that couple are not from this planet.
