per the new york times-

"The new, live-action “The Little Mermaid” is everything nobody should want in a movie"

rotten tomatos-70% metacritic-58%

can't say i'm surprised-the previews did not look that great.

I saw it last night and I thought it was a good version of the Little Mermaid story. It mostly followed the script of the animated movie but had it's own style and flair. People in the theater were cheering and clapping when it ended so it seemed to be well received. One burly guy stood up and said "That was totally worth coming out for!"
I would recommend seeing it in IMAX if possible, it gave you the feeling of being underwater in the sea scenes.

Critics hate remakes and cgi. You really need a couple solid days of audience reviews to get a true verdict
Not sure, 71% at Rotten tomatoes isn't a bad score. It's a 'meh' score. Which might be even worse. If you are a bad movie you will be remembered, if you are 'meh' then you get forgotten easily.

Audience reviews on Rotten Tomatoes is 84%, which is better but not an amazing score either.
Letterboxd: 3,5 star out of 5.
Metacritic: 88 out of 100 from critics now, 7.6 out of 10 from the audience.

Its big advantage is the demographics of the movie goers. It was huge when the 20-30 years olds where little. They will turn out in droves. Nothing tops nostalgia.

We're going to see it tomorrow in IMAX 2D. I have problems with double vision so 3D isn't possible for me.

Saw it today. It was too long. I didn’t like the new songs. Sebastian was my favorite in the movie.

I'm seeing 92% now with audience for Rotten Tomatoes but it only the 100+ reviews so way way way too low to even think about using Rotten Tomatoes as a meter. Need a larger amount. The critics are showing 70% with 185 reviews which for critics that's a decent amount of reviews, just too small for audience.

I'm not seeing a score from Metacritic for audience yet and the critics has fallen to 59 with 43 critics which doesn't match your numbers so not sure where you're seeing your info it must be different than what I'm seeing.

I don't think it helps no matter the movie at this point because there's fatigue around live remakes. Instead of just doing a few and calling it that they've done so many. And it's no longer like "oh this new generation can enjoy it" because the originals that they've been doing largely have stood the test of time so well it can go beyond generational bounds.

I'm not sure if I'll see if even if on Disney+ as this one just hasn't grabbed my attention which has nothing to do with any presupposed controversy it just didn't grab me. I think the last live remake I've seen is Aladdin?? But I could be forgetting one. I haven't see Cruella yet (which isn't a remake but still based off of an existing character).

Just saw it with one of our daughters great movie. Like normal Rotten Tomatoes is wrong again haha.

I really like the remake, the new addition of songs, and the whole vibe of the movie. Honestly went in thinking is might just be okay but was completely shocked at how much at certain parts of the movie I was like "this is really good".

Have to still go back to Mulan but I would say its the best remake Disney has done.

Reviews are sooo mixed.
ALL movies have a up hill climb since you can stream it cheaper and easier.
This movie will be on Disney+ .
A family of four will spend well over $150. That is CRAZY.

We saw it last night with our 23 year old daughter. She loved it and the new rap song Scuttlebutt…lol Of course the crab was hilarious.

Melissa McCarthy was great as Ursla too.

Just because it’s a pet peeve, the current score on Rotten Tomatoes 68% is just that 68% of critics said it was better than a 6/10. Its current aggregate score on RT is a 6.4/10 among critics.

Audience through over 500+ verified reviews 9.4/10.
