My guess is they were protesting thisOriginally posted by Maleficent13
What were they protesting?
The city's tourist bureau has pulled an off-Broadway show called "Naked Boys Singing" from a list of discounted offerings to visiting Republican delegates, after the Republican National Committee complained it wasn't suitable.

At least they were not throwing marbles at horses feet to make mounted police fall (and get hurt, not to mention breaking the horses legs in the process)

ACT UP (the group pulling this "stunt" protest) is an AIDS activist group.
While I agree with their main focus (drawing attention to the fight against AIDS), I hate that they choose this form to lodge their protest. Just makes anyone joining the legit protests that are coming look like part of the same looney group.
I think it was simply a matter of numbers. When a protest being held Sunday is expected to draw as many as a quarter of a million people, a group of 30 is gonna have to do something a little different if they want to get any attention at all.Originally posted by rcyannacci
Isn't this unusual for ACT UP? I remember earlier protests where they were very careful to put up a clear, dignified, organized front so that people would have to take them seriously and couldn't claim that they were breaking any laws. Perhaps different times call for different measures...but I agree that it's unlikely that we will see any of the legit protestors in NY if other groups are using these types of theatrics.
