And now they LIED about the Mickey Statues?

Although it may seem to you that we can pick up at the spur of the moment, there are many obstacles in our lives that prevent us from doing that. With a special needs child it does require planning and schedule juggling for all three children. I'm sorry you found my post amusing, it was not meant to be funny. I don't think it matters where a person lives, if they plan a vacation just like everyone else, it is disappointing when things don't go according to plan.
They are statues... Painted pieces of plaster.... the world is coming to an end that I couldn't see these exciting pieces of painted plaster in a roped off area. I'm sorry, but I think it is ridiculous that anyone would actually plan a trip just to see them. They weren't/aren't very exciting in the first place.

But I did expect that response. Look at the other chips - all of them have been justified here by people using very self-centered means. The "let them close 'Wonders of Life, I'm bored" and "I don't care what you think, I'm not letting it ruin my trip!" don't show a lot respect for other people's interests or other people concern's.
But isn't that kind of the same as decrying "Mission : Space" and the people who find it thrilling and fun simply because it doesn't match your expectation of what that pavilion experience should be? We traded pages of notes about how lame you thought the ride was and how the people who thought it was cool needed to get a life. That doesn't show a lot of respect for other people's interests or concerns either ....

I can't believe this!! We planned this trip arriving April 1st just so we could see the 75 Mickey's. I can't believe the amount of notice that was given either. No chance of changing plans at this late date. What is going on with Disney lately? It's one thing after another! We are soooo disappointed with this news. We can only hope that the tour will change and we will be one of the cities it visits, but of course I doubt that. I feel like cancelling our trip but what would I tell the kids. Disney, how could you let us down like this???
Truly ... if this was the main impetus for your trip -- if you would have never planned a trip in April if the statues were not supposed to be there -- then you should call or write Disney and tell them that. Let them know you're disappointed about the sudden change of plans, and that it's disappointed everyone in your family. Even though virtually everything that Disney puts out includes the line "Subject to change without notice," my bet is that you'll receive some sort of compensation, be it free tickets or a hotel upgrade or ... something. If they really mean THAT much to you, then you should make that known.

Your post started out with "I Am Outraged !!! " and ended with " Disney, how could you let us down like this???" . In the middle of that post there was no mention of special needs children.

When I read your first post, I felt bad that you weren't going to be able to see the Mickeys, but then I saw your location under your screen name and though 'good grief,WDW is in your backyard". That's what I found funny. Didn't mean to offend you, sorry if I did.

I can't believe how this board makes things into such drama. On other places around the net, this news has been greeted with, if anything at all, responses like "Oh, really, that's interesting" or "Glad to see those ugly things won't be cluttering up the entrance anymore".

"Glad to see those ugly things won't be cluttering up the entrance anymore".

"the world is coming to an end that I couldn't see these exciting pieces of painted plaster in a roped off area."

Exactly - self centered posts that are pefect if you only look at WDW from a narrow perspective of one's own amusement.

But if you really consider Disney a business, you have to see things from the public's point of veiw. The more people Disney tick's off, the fewer customers they are going to have. There are people that are thrilled with California Adventure - yet given the scope fo the business the place is a fisaco.

Same deal with 'Mission: Space'. Disney's business model was that this single attraction was going hurle EPCOT's attendance to heights as dizzining as the ride's guests. My opinion, which seems to be bearing out in fact, it that the attraction isn't good enough to do that.

What you like doesn't matter a hill of beans - it's only what the majority people want, i.e. willing to pay for, that matters. The oft said "Disney is a business" is more than just a way to beat someone into shutting up about the latest cut-back, closure or reduction. It's also means you have to worry about generating revenue in addition to cutting costs. The only way to get the money in the first place is from happy, paying customers.

Bashing someone into following the company line isn't going to improve the bottom line at all.

Ahhh... so you are the only one that is allowed to have self centered posts or an opinion about enjoyment at WDW, it all becomes so much clearer now, and anyone else be damned for saying otherwise.....

Deweys girls, I was not talking in the negative about you at all. I am not one of those people who say that people should "get a life" or what not. I was simply commenting on how far tampa is from WDW. Just like earlier in the post I simply posted a news story about the statues.

If someone is disappointed, it seems kinder to offer sympathy than to belittle them for their disappointment. Criticizing a ride for not being all that it could be seems to be a completely different thing.

As for me, I've never seen the Mickey's and don't really want to. But if others like them, that's OK too. :)

If I was working as a greeter and someone came to me dissappointed about the statues, I would at least give you something, but thats me and I like giving to the guests. I once fed a family of 5 who had locked their keys in their rental car and had to wait 6hrs for the company to send someone out. Always express your concerns to the cast. Not everyone who works at WDW is like ME

Mr. Searcher, I'll say it.

Mission:Space is lame, and a big waste of Disney's money.

Does that mean I will cheer if someone who has never ridden it is mad if it is closed when they visit?

What, am I a moron? Of course I won't. I would empathise with any person planning a vacation who expected something to be open but finds out it isn't.

I don't care if it is the Mountains, the water parks, the golf courses, heck, even if they wanted to be the first to open their own Mission:Space personalized barf bag.

Ridiculing posters who are upset with changes at Disney doesn't change the fact that Mikey is desperate to try anything to avoid talking about Roy in Philly. Even if it means hiding behind 75 plaster paris statues of a little guy whose heart he can't begin to compete with.

We all have different interests and we all see Disney in a different way. What we want to see differs in as many ways as our names and personalities. I've seen people examining every plaque that accompanied the plants of Animal Kingdom and enjoying reading about them. I just pass them by, not really caring what kind of plant they are, unless it's one that has shade for a bench. :) As far as the Mickey's, no I guess it wasn't an original idea, although living in a small town, I'd never heard of the concept, so I thought it was. I spent about 30-40 minutes looking at the Mickeys, enjoying how each one was designed, while people practically tripped over me to get to the inside of the park to see Splash Mountain. It's all relative I guess. For those who live in Florida, we've been to Disney many times generally and so it's the new things, no matter how small, that interest us the most and want to see those new things, especially if they are temporary. I didn't go to Disney to see the Mickey's last week, forgot they were there until I got to MK, but I would have been disappointed if I had missed them.

my wife and i have been to disney many times, we took a break and didnt visit for 6 years, then 3 years ago we started going on yearly vacations again. we've seen most everything there is, try to hit the highlights and go with the flow. we are going the end of this month, and one of the things we were looking forward to was seeing the statues in person. its not that big a deal, but i feel that if you put a date out there, one should try to honor it. a nice compromise would have been to leave at least 20 statues at wdw, i mean, really, are are 75 of them. if you are going to yank them early, you could at least leave a few! and no, micheal, it wont save your sorry a## in philadelphia!

Michael Eisner is holding them for ransom. "Vote for me, or the Mickeys get it!"

(sorry about my bad sense of humor.)

Huh? So .... am I ridiculing posters, or is that directed to someone else? Because I can't find a post where I ridiculed anyone for being upset about the statues being gone. And I don't think I ever said that it wasn't a simple marketing ploy to bring the statues to Philly. It is. Which is why I never defended it. I did, however, comment to AV about his Mission : Space posts in an earlier thread, but that was a specific comment based on something he posted here. So ...

Your "bad sense of humor" is well appreciated...
