You don't have to be old and senile to be a *******!;)

He went on a local talk show with Boomer Esiason and said that he couldn't understand why they allowed women to be sideline reportrs for football games and he didn't want to get his football reporting from a female. .

I think it's long past due for CBS to put Mr. Rooney out to pasture..

Disney Debbie, he got on a radio show some 2 weeks ago and said (this is a paraphrased quote, but I think it is mostly accurate)

"Now, I'm not a sexist, or anything, but I think that WOMEN have NO BUSINESS broadcasting from the sidelines of a football game."

Not surprising! What's funny is I've learned more about football from my friend Vicky who's sons both played then I ever did from any man!

Or on an Internet Bulletin Board, either.

hehehe

last week on 60 min, he clarified his statment by adding "women could be great Presidents, and CO,s but they just dont know football "

Let me tell you,I'd rather listen to Leslie Visser than Chris Collinsworth or that IDIOT Dan Dierdork any day.To give Rooney his due,the blonde bubble-head they replaced Leslie Visser with on MNF is a little bit of a joke.I don't lose sleep over it though,I get up too early to worry about seeing many MNF games anyway,I only make it if the Pats are playing.

Hmmmm. I'm embracing myself for possible flaming.

I watched his comments this week, and I think he's right. Some female broadcasters are just there to look pretty, and to fill quota. Maybe they shouldn't be there.

Sad but true. I'm a woman, but I'm not blindly feminist. To earn people's respect, you need to have the talent so that people don't look at you as a female object. If you are good, people noticed your work, and not your gender.

Like CNN's Christina Amapour. When was the last time you saw her reporting in the war zone, and you thought....she got a new haircut??? Your work speaks for you.

No flame adamak, and I agree with you up to a point. :) Some female reporters are hired for their looks. . just like some male announcers are hired because they were good football players.

There are good and bad female sportscasters just like there are good and bad male sportscasters. My problem with Rooney's comments is that he said "female sportcasters" period, without differentiating those hired as "eye" candy and those who are knowledgable and have earned their positions.

He also made a pretty offensive racial statement a couple of year s back. He's an emabarrassment and in my opinion CBS should show him the door. .

I taught DH about football and hockey. Please don't tell him I posted this, he would be very embarressed.:p :teeth:
